My old eyes say
Looks rode hard and put up wet....
What is in the upper left??

If you want it as a bird gun and leave the barrels intact, what you should look for is a early gun.
The new ones have magnum barrels on them and weigh like a boat anchor. Balance is terrible.

The early guns have browned barrels and are choked, the gun will weigh about 5 1/2 to 6 pounds.

I kind of want a Mad Max gun - but plan to leave the stock on. Though knowing me I'd take it out bird hunting then never cut it down.

An LGS near me always had several SxS percussion guns on the shelf. All used. All in the 300-500.00 range. Always planned on picking one up and the guy suddenly closed up shop. I guess like the saying goes, if you snooze......
Anyway if you want it get it. If you want to chop it, go ahead and chop it. JMHO

That's what I think of when I see the Howdah Hunter 20 ga. Might not be all that useful but sure does seem cool!

Decade or so ago Dixie was selling a 14 inched barreled 12 gauge double. They showed up a bit among re enactors, especially CSA cav types.

They did look rather vicious. Had to be better than sawing up a gun you don't know how is put together. Sawing off a double is NOT as easy as a single mainly because the barrels may well end up not regulated and to regulate them your self can be a pain.

Of course one would have to be ready to calmly discuss they NFA 34 ramifications with any and every LEO they meet with such a sawed off bugger. Sure its a percussion gun and not covered, but they likely don't know that and don't want to hear it from you.
