WASR-10 GP at the range

Bought a new WASR-10 (version with bayonet lug and slant compensator). Took it to the range and had a couple double feeds, and the bolt didn't go all the way forward into battery. This all happened within the first 30 rounds or so. After that it seemed to smooth out and ran flawlessly for the rest of the time there.

Anyone else have a "break in" period with these particular AK's?

Yes, I have the same AK and the bolt was tight at first but after 2 boxes of ammo, it was fine.

My WASR 10 has had no problems whatsoever.

Your trigger group was most likely the problem.
Most times they fit tight,and the hammer will slow the bolt down
enough to prevent proper loading.
After running a few mags,it does help some.
Keep an eye on your hammer,as Century has been known
to have "soft" hammers. I've changed out all FCG's on my
Century guns,and never looked back.

I have the same WASR 10 and had the same problem for the first two mags, thousands of rounds later I have never had that problem again. Just let the bolt go when you chamber a round. It will bind if you ride the handle forward into battery (every AK I have ever shot does this). Fear not the WASR has proven to be the most reliable semi auto rifle I have ever owned.

One problem I have is that, once in a while, my WASR likes to pretend that it has a bolt stop. I'd have to give the handle a little nudge for the bolt to move forward. This never happened while firing, though, and only when I opened the bolt by hand.

The WASR does have a bolt stop....Well, sorta

Atleast on mine, if you pull the bolt to the fully rear postion, and then pull the trigger, the hammer will "lock up" against the carrier . Does no harm to the firearm, but works great at the range for cease fires so as to have your action open without a chamber checker inserted. When you want to load a mag, you simply load up as normal, then pull the charging handle back about a half inch and release it. This pushes the hammer back under the bolt where it is caught by the trigger sear. If you drop the firearm, or give it a stiff blow, the bolt will close so BE CAREFUL if you do this to load a mag like I do after a cease fire ...

I have an AK that stayed open like that as well. However, the more I have fired it, the weaker I think that has become. It is like some interference that will work itself out over time. WASR's are roughly finished and sometimes roughly machined in places. I wouldn't be surprised if the metal to metal contact in areas was very rough and required some break in.

Mine had the same problem, but I sanded off the burrs and cleaned out the metal shavings that were still in the gun, and haven't had any problems since.
