I'm greatly thinking about buying a WASR variant AK and thought it best to seek guidance from THR. Are the WASR's as reliable and sturdy?
Also, are the magazines such as Tapco interchangeable with the WASR?

Thanks in advance,

-A

as long as it's a double stack you should be fine with any AK Magazines,Wasr are converted from single to double stacks so any ak-47 magazine can fit, some used to have canted sights but newer one don't have that problem. if you go with the wasr, i think that the only thing you have to do is "refinish the wood" a wasr is very good AK for the money... on today's market well.. it's a little overpriced, i would recommend a Saiga intead, made in a russian factory with russian tools but then again there is nothing wrong with a wasr.

note: i can send you a few pics if you have any question

Yes to both questions.
I have run a case + through a 10/63 with no
malfunctions.

I have a WASR 10/63 that I've had for 2 years now and I absolutely love it. It rattles a bit if you shake her, but she has never, ever, ever jammed or had any other kind of problems. They do take standard AK mags. I absolutely love it.
P.S. I absolutely love it.

Reliable, should be. It's very hard to put together an AK that will jam. Longevity may be a little suspect with Century builds though, as they weld the gas piston to the carrier, rather than pinning in a way that allows a little flex. That will probably stress the rails and bolt carrier more than a flexible one. It's only about a $35 fix if you can find someplace selling properly put together bolt carriers.
