...or well maybe I really don't want to grow up...

Recently I was involved in a little matter, http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?threadid=35853
So I did attend the CCW class with the Lady, her dad and the daughter. The daughter is 4 "but working on 5" (Dec). I figure the little girl might get bored with the adult stuff, I made an inquiry and checked with her granddad , the LEO I met the other day and the other instructors. Now Granddad has shown the Eddie Eagle tape to her . I bought some water pistols, and I find the instructors have some rubber bullets fired by primer only, in .38 and .45 ACP ;) Now one of the things I do/did when teaching new people sometimes to ingrain the finger off trigger is to use the green felt tabs for cabinets,I position so when off trigger , the finger feels the felt and new shooter gets a muscle memory... in this case I used a pc of cartoon Band-Aid for the water pistols, J frame, and 1911. Road Runner (tm) looks pretty cool on my green water pistol and Stainless 1911,only so- so on the J frame. We had the range to ourselves, discussed four rules, and "got to work". She caught right on and did well. Then we broke out the J frame and I explained how it worked. "Know what is behind target" she says...granted we are going to shoot at 3 yds, so with empty cylinder open and me using the granddad as RO we get permission to head downrange (hey I know better than to argue with an "almost 5 y/o") ;) Granted we can see everything, but we ain't shooting until she looks for herself. Hey I'm proud at this point. So with eyes and ears we start to shoot--wait. Ok I'm wearing a bandana to keep the sweat out of my eyes...we ain't shooting until she is wearing a bandana...ok I retrieve another gray one...has to be like mine. These rubber bullets for little kids are great! The J frame was perfect for her, sitting on the ground, her in my lap ,shooting 2-3 yds she did really well, no recoil, no noise . Then she wanted to shoot a 1911. "I like the bigger holes" :D Smart kid I told ya. Oh yeah Granddad can't let us have all the fun she gets him involved. " I can talk him into anything...Grandad buys the sodas. Later..."Mom let him do yours like we did...Mom qualified with Road Runner on a 3913 :D She really paid attention to the 4 rules. Later I let her and mom shoot the 1911 , quite a site to see those two helping each other, Graddad and I just grinned. Heck the LEO whom was instructing them...even had fun. Main thing is the lady took a big step and did the CCW, the kid is getting a different perspective of guns and their use.

El Tejon made a comment recently: "Each one-Teach one". I think I was the student in this deal...

You know I may just leave Road Runner on my 1911 for a bit....
A certain "almost 5 year old" now has a gray bandana, my green water pistol "for mom to use" and she uses a blue one...oh she also talked me out of the rest of Road Runner Band-Aids...Grandad's job is to get more rubber bullets and keep teaching...I bet a dollar that kid ends up being a shooter for life...

btw we used a box and placed the Target over the open end, we retreived the rubber bullets, just new primers, insert bullet, and the kid is ready to go again...Grandad talked into this being his area of responsibility...Still have some work to do on dryfiring and walking the dime...hard to do on J frame...she'll work on it I bet...

I'll bet another dollar a .22 becomes part of that family real quick, none now, but it won't be long...gotta get mom what she NEEDS first...

I give thee a pat upon the back. :D

I wish the LE here was like that, and would HELP people get a permit...they seem to think that the general public here doesn't need CCW. (well, moreso the sherrifs...heck, maybe just the head sherrif...than does the local police)
