I have a push-feed Walmart edition Model 70 Shadow with the original black plastic stock with the "W" on it. I want to get an inexpensive stock (e.g.: used, second-quality, etc) to replace the hideous one on it currently. It would then need bottom metal as well, which would run me about $100 from PTG, which I wouldn't really want to spend on this rifle. Any tips on finding cheap parts?

Just to be clear: this is not a rifle I want to slap a $400 stock on... I know about Boyd's, MacMillan, Bell and Carlson, Hogue, eBay, etc, I am asking about the little-known ways to purchase the parts in question (e.g.: how to find used stocks, damaged stocks, factory seconds, etc). Thanks in advance.

barbs, google CDNN, and follow to "winchester gun parts" and then to winchester stocks. Also you might check Numerich's website. Some of their stocks are about what the factory would charge, others are ridiculously cheap and I believe both carry blems.

Keep the rifle as it is. Sell it and buy what you want if you cannot stand it. The rifle will shoot as well as anything in the factory stock and the blind magazine does offer some advantages. No matter how much money you throw at it, it will still be a $300- $350 rifle. Personally I'd just shoot the thing. The old PF Winchesters are solid rifles, but will never be worth a lot of money.

The $100 PT&G bottom metal is probably as good as you're going to get for the money, others can be closer to $300. You will quickly end up with far more money in the gun than it will ever be worth. Not sure about this rifle, but you may also have to buy another mag spring and follower as well as another mag box. Sometimes they are the same, sometimes not.

this might be a long shot, but what if you reached out to accuracy international (I think they are the ones that make the the m5 stealth metal stockystocks sells)and see if they had any take-offs laying around from folks that converted to the detachable box mag?

thanks for the advice on the factory seconds, ill give them a shot. in regards to keeping it the way it is: i don't care about the value of the gun... i already have a model 70 worth $1500 that i hunt with regularly. im just bored and need a project (the rifle in question was given to me, and i dont sell any of my guns).
