I'm looking to re-stock my vanguard deluxe 30-06, mainly because I don't want to run the risk of damaging the pretty wood stock. I've been thinking of the Bell & Carlson medalist. Does anyone have experience with the fit of the B&C's to the long actioned vanguards?

Also, I was thinking of the black with grey webbing, and can't decide if that would look odd with a polished blued barrel and reciever.

thanks.

The B&C Medalist stocks have been great for my Weatherby rifles. The Weatherby version of it will come with the end of the barrel being pressed upward pressure of 5Lbs. That is per Weatherby's request for maximum accuracy. Free float the barrel at your own risk. FYI, Weatherby suggests only free floating their #3 and #4 barrels. Check www.stockysstocks.com for prices.

Hello,

a little OT, but how do you like the Vanguard Deluxe? v. the Mark V Deluxe? Do you ever wish you'd gone with the Mark V?

What do you feel you get for the extra $1200 or so? The quality of the stocks looks similar to me, so it must be in the actions / barrels? (The Mark V .30-06 action is a lighter 6-lug version of the magnum 9-lug Mark V, I understand).

Sorry for the diversion, Beautiful rifles.

I'm not crazy about the B&C stocks, but I've used them in the past. The Medalist stocks are good stocks, I just don't care for the weight or feel. They do tend to run heavier than I like and tend to be a bit chunky through the grip. Don't waste your money on the Carbelite version.

While I've owned them in the past I'd pay the difference and get a McMillan if it were me. If you do get the B&C I like the green and black on a blue gun, but black and gray would be my 2nd choice.

Here are a couple of photos of the green/black on both a blue rifle.

I believe the Weatherby Vanguard and the Howa are the same action and may offer you a wider range of options, especially if considering used stocks.
