Hey guys, I was looking to put a new stock on my vanguard. I have the old version with the butler creek stock, but I am dropping in a timney trigger. So I ordered a bell and carlson medalist and I have to say I'm disappointed. The inletting looks sloppy and there is aluminum protruding on the bottom that is causing the floor plate to not sit flush. I plan on returning this. I think I will order a boyds gunstock instead.

My question is: If I have the timney trigger, do I order the regular vanguard stock and inlet the stock for the safety or the series two to allow inletting for the 3 position safety? I was hoping someone on here owns both and could tell me what the difference is between the two. I doubt anything besides the trigger has changed, but I don't want to chance it. Boyds are closed until Monday.

Thanks for any advice you have. BTW, I thought about just selling the rifle, but my wife bought it for me and I took my first buck with it. It holds memories for me. Lol

I just put a Timney on my 1986 vintage Vanguard VGL.I had to remove a little stock material right in front of the trigger because the adjusting screw sticks out enough to rub the stock.I also had to open up the channel for the safety just a little. All told,it still took less that half an hour to install the trigger.

I installed the trigger on my rifle and put her back in the factory Tupperware without any modification needed. I'm looking to order a boyds laminate stock. Trying to decide on a thumbhole or standard stock with cheek piece. Rifle is a do it all deer rifle in 300 wby.
