Janet and I was torn twixt settin up at a small gun show yesterday and our commitments to our worship team at church.
Well, we were blessed with bein able to do both.
As some of ya know, i've had my heart set on a pretty unreachable six shooter.
Unreachable because of the way GB has been drivin prices unreasonably high.

About an hour into the show i was walkin t'wards the door when i see this fella holdin a grey plastic box under his arm.
Me.." for sale?"
"yep"
He opens the box and immediately i start to think.."way too much" .
" I want one so bad, this is cruel, walk away Jim ".
Well...." can i see it?"
He hands er off to me and she immediately felt ..'at home' in my hand.
I check it over, admire, drool, curb my enthusiasm.
Notice she's sportin an R&D.
Trigger is beautiful.A wee bit light.....mmm...'worked'.
OK, time for dissapointment and to say goodby to my 'grail'.
I take a deep breath and half heartedly let those fatefull words kind o' jist fall out.
"What ya askin for it?"
"$400.00"
Without even aware of the moment and what i just heard i instinctively retort...
"take $350.00?"
"ok"
:what:
I couldn't pull the cash fast enough.

I sat back down at my table and found myself in a state of euphoria for a while.
Turns out tho that there is no factory cylinder with 'er.:(
I'm gonna call Ruger today but i'm sure that all i'll git is laughed at.
I sure hope i didn't buy a big ole :banghead:
None-the-least.All "economicals" aside.
I absolutely love it!!!

Good job every time I find an old army it seems the owner wants at least $500. Regardless of whether it's blued or stainless in good shape or whipped, I probably would have dropped my wallet trying to get it out fast enough.

Nice!
I read on one of these forums that Ruger does have cylinders but won't sell them unless there is a pistol w/o one. Give 'em a try.
If not that Classicballistix cylinder will work out.

Thanx Kyle. I'm sure i'll have over $500 in this one by the time i git a BP cylinder for 'er.
BUT, i'll also have an R&D for that money.

Thanx Bob,
You probably read that in a post o' mine.
They told me that a while back when i called to buy an extra cylinder for my '74 brass grip.
I did in fact "Give 'em a try".
It took my over an hour and 20 minutes o' bein on hold but they told me that the do indeed have cylinders for this one. Gave me a price, an RMA # and told me i was lookin at 2+ weeks turn around.
I just got back from the post office :D
I do however have a concern. AS i said in my OP i'm certian that this gun was 'worked'. Ruger is probably gonna wanna UN-'work' it and then charge me for it.
I should add tho that the fella on the phone told me that more than often the techs will find worn or altered parts and replace them at no charge.
This trigger was sooo sweet tho :(
Small price to pay tho to have a factory cylinder for 'er ;)

What don't you like 'bout 'em ?
I don't have anything agin `em, I just like Colt's better in percussion guns. To me, the ROA just doesn't have that frontier appeal but I still would've bought that one for the price you paid. ;)

It isn't that they won't sell you a cylinder (if they have them) but rather that they want to fit it, if fitting is required. Therefore simply selling cylinders is a no-no. Send in the revolver less the conversion one, and it will come back with a new C&B one installed. As for the lockwork, they probably won't bother unless the trigger pull is below minimum standard. If so it will come back with new parts and be charged against your dime.

She's allready on 'er way to Ruger OF.
Feller on the phone said that most times if the techs find somethin' awry internal, they jist fix it at no charge.
The trigger on this one was definately 'worked'.
Very clean, crisp and LIGHT.
Something i personaly like and can safely live with.
But i'm no pistol 'smith and if they know it needs fixin then i'm all for it.
I aint even gonna tell y'all the price i was quoted for the cylinder until i hear from them and it's paid for. You'd think she read it form a 1980 owners manual/parts list tho.

So you will wind up with an ROA with a new percussion cylinder and a conversion cylinder for what you should have paid for the ROA alone....

...I suggest buying a lottery ticket while your stars are aligned.

Yeah, really.... You've already used up any Lottery luck you had for this year and likely next as well.... :D

Seriously nice find. And it show that there are still deals to be had out there if you're in the right place at the right time.
