I'm tempted to send my ROA to Ruger, sans cylinder, just to get a second cylinder for it.

With luck like that, you might want to buy a lottery ticket. What a deal!

Yeah, really.... You've already used up any Lottery luck you had for this year and likely next as well....

Haha, i spose BCrider, but i jist don't believe in luck.I jist live life honestly and it pays off.

Seriously nice find. And it show that there are still deals to be had out there if you're in the right place at the right time.

Thanx rider. I'm happy.
It very well could have gone differently.
This place that holds the gun show is a gun club and unfortunately some of the members that 'run' the show are quite greedy.
While i was inspectin this gun and talkin with the seller one of those fellas from the club was actualy stickin' his head allmost against my chest between my face and the pistol as i was checkin it out.I had to step away from him a few times.
I told the seller i'd buy and then said.."let's go over to my table".
While he and i were standing at my table, this cub member walked right in between us while i was takin the gun apart to look at it more closely, puts his back against me and in his greedy haste says to the seller.." what's the lowest you'll take for that gun ?"
I imediately responded with.." it's sold" and nudged him away.
This guy was so greedy that he wasn't even thinkin or talkin straight.
Instead of sayin " what's your lowest?".
He should have said somethin like...." i'll give you $25 more".
Haha, some people amaze me.

Jim, you scored bigtime on that! Did you see any Smith and Wessons for $100 NIB while you were there? Or original Colt 1860's?

Thanx Levi.
And i promise you.
As soon as i see either of those guns NIB fer $100 i will grab 'em up for ya.;)

Heck Levi, you won't need no steenkeeng piece o' paper to convince me yer qualified to work on my gun. You got that 'passion'.THAT is obvious.
I started with that same passion and it grew into talent.
Yer goin the same direction.

I know jist how much you flat out love the workins of the 'machine' also.

Now go clean the rust off them two in yer earlier post before i change my belief in you

I got (or had) this friend in Okalahoma. Ask him to scare me up an original, like new, Colt Single Action Army from one of his less-then-bright redneck buds' for $25.00

So far he has utterly failed me. :D

"I don't need no lottery tickets. The Maker o' the stars takes care o' me "

Isn't it awesome knowing that luck is not needed?!

Fuff, are you tryin to tell me that a road trip to an Okey gun show is in order ?

Good friend of mine has a pair of Old Armies just like that one - without the conversion. We rib him about his "fancy tart's guns" but he doesn't seem to care.......

Nice score - enjoy her. And yeah, I've had very good experience with Ruger's customer service. I'm sure they'll fix you up.

Phil

"Fancy tarts". i like that, That's what i'll call her. "My little tart" :D
( allthough, in .45LC, she'll have a quite a bark)

Thanx Phil, and thanx for the encouraging words 'bout Ruger.

robhof

Congrats on a great steal/deal. Wow that's great, I've bought 3 Classicballistix cylinders for mine on the auction sites and they all came with a warning to have them fitted, but they all fit and checked out with the wood dowel test for timing. I've had them for years and they've all worked fine. I also take the factory cylinder out of my other ROA for a day at the range with just one and a lot of shots between reloads. You might consider just picking up a Ruger cylinder on an auction site and testing it before sending to Ruger, and they might not even have any cylinders as they auctioned out most of theor ROA parts when they stopped production.

Thanx robhof.
I've allready mailed the gun to them.I was told they do have a cylinder in stock for me and quoted me a price.
I have checked on line and was never able to find ROA cylinders before i got this gun.
Thanx for the review on the ballistix.
I tried what you talk about and all my ROA cylinders will interchange and fit and function great.
My production dates run from 1974 to 2002.
Shame that they require you to send your ROA to have a cylinder 'fit'.

Ruger does give good customer relations. Here's a short and recent story about me, them and my Mini 14. I called customer service parts dept. about getting some sight elevation screws and they didn't listen to me when I gave them the serial number. The result was that they sent me the wrong screws, calling them again they saw their mistake and offered to send me a new sight at no cost. That done I immediately called their service dept. and they offered to send me the screws at no charge.
Lesson learned:
Ruger is still built by humans
Ruger is still run by humans
If you don't act like a jerk amazing things can happen when you're talking like a gentlemen to a human.

All Old Armies are 3-screws with the traditional half-cock action. Ruger's transfer bar ignition is incompatible with the percussion cap.
You are absolutely right and I knew that but I have 5 Blackhawks and only one Old Army so my brain didn't sort out the correct information.
Thank you for kick-starting my brain.
