We need to ask Starline to cut us some .900 .38 brass

I don't see the big need for .900" long 38 brass ... But if I wanted shorter 38 special cases ... just set up the old power trimmer and it would only take a few minutes to shorten a few hundred .
You know what they say ... You want something done right , you gotta do it yourself !

What's a "power trimmer"?

What's a "power trimmer"?

You can get powered trimmer head for some of the progressive presses. A Dillon 650/750 or 1050 can mound a powered trimmer. You can then use the reloaders case feeder and progressive turn table to very quickly feed alot of brass rapidly through the press trimming it to the length you want.

Jump to ~3:30 and you can see a Dillon 650 setup to trim and resize 223 brass into 300 BO brass and how fast this setup can be. Not cheap but very capable. You can then convert the press over (change tool heads) to then load your new short 38 cases just as fast as it trimmed them.

Here's my version:

It's a Forster that I hooked up a 120RPM motor from Amazon. I was never happy with the drill or power screwdriver hookups that I tried. I think that it would handle the OP's need for 500 trimmed brass quite nicely as long as the cutter held out. I can't remember if I replaced the one on mine with a carbide or not.

If I had known a picture of this unit would be posted on the internet I would have finished the board a little nicer. But it is just a prototype.
