Welcome to the "Dark Side"????

This may be the most stupid question I have ever posted! (And that's saying a LOT!;) )

But.... when message boards speak of "the dark side" what does that mean?

It seems to mean ARs and AKs and GLOCKS! I know this is stupid but my curiousity is driving me crazy!

Can anyone define "The Dark Side Side" to me?

(withholding my name so you won't know who I am! :neener: )

It all depends on context!

If I'm on a 1911-based board, (like the 1911forum, www.1911forum.com) then, "the dark side" probably does mean Glock! (Tongue-in-cheek.)

If I'm in a politics-based forum, then it means "the other party".

In "Star Wars", the dark side means the dark, or evil side of the Force. As in:

Darth Vader: "There is no escape. Don't make me destroy you. Luke, you do not yet realize your importance. You have only begun to discover your power. Join me, and I will complete your training. With our combined strength, we can end this destructive conflict and bring order to the galaxy."
Luke Skywalker: "I'll never join you! "
Darth Vader: "If you only knew the power of the DARK SIDE. Obi-wan never told you what happened to your father."
Luke Skywalker: "He told me enough! He told me you killed him."
Darth Vader: "No. I am your father. "

Sorry for the dumb answer, I couldn't help myself.

As far as shooting contexts, I've seen the dark side refer to moving from 30-caliber wooden battle rifles to .223 caliber "evil black" assault rifles (ARs). I've also seen it mentioned when referencing moving from .45 ACP to 9mm -- which probably has some UN, evil-Empire-like significance.:D

From the posts and replies I've read on this and other forums, the 'dark side' seems to be any group or item that has with it a very strong and possibly rabid following.

to me,it seems more like

"just what I need,another hobby''

or more that,I,think about it,

more of another ''money pit'':banghead:

The "Dark Side" usually refers to something that is evil, but nevertheless holds some sort of power or attraction that draws you to it. In gun circles, it's usually the opposite of whatever the majority likes.

So, on the 1911 forum, it's Glocks or Berettas. "Beware the Dark Side..." The members are basically saying "They're bad, but some are tempted and fall victim to the wicked ways of those others...

On the Glock forum, it's 1911s and Berettas and sigs and H&Ks and everything not Glock...

The idea being that if there's a following, but we have no understanding of why, it's the dark-side...!

it seems to me that "the dark side" is whatever side yuo are NOT on. if you like AK's, then AR's are the dark side. if you like 1911's then Glock is the dark side. and vice versa etcetera etcetera ad naseum.

I got a lot of this when I switched from prosecution to criminal defense. Of course, that was where I got NM law changed to ensure that it's legal to use a gun while making a proper citizen's arrest for a felony . . . .

Around here the "dark side" has always seemed to be owning a Glock and liking it.

I love my G30.

HAHAHA!:D :D :D :D :D

I honestly "didn't get it". It all makes sense now! (I can be kinda slow sometimes.)

Thanks for the replies. Didn't take me long to figure it out after reading them!

Thanks! You guys are the best!

Although I've heard the "Dark Side" used to describe many things, the first thing that I still associate it with is purchasing a Glock. It's that word association game. I think I was at the 1911forum before I checked out the Glock forum. What's on the "Light Side"? Everything else?
