Just on FoxNews. A man said to be of Arab descent douses self with gasoline and sets himself on fire. :what:

No additional details yet, but they had a voice report on the scene, and I could hear police sirens in the background.

I have NEVER understood the tactic of setting oneself on fire as a means of protest.

I just don't understand what things like this accomplish.

I mean I don't agree with, but can understand terrorism or attacking your perceived enemy in a way that you believe will effect him.

I understand protests, I understand striking, I can even understand hunger strikes because you hang on long enough to get enough publicity to talk about your cause.

Just killing yourself says nothing but "Idiot kills self, film at eleven"

This was derived from the Buddhist monks who did same to protest VN war. The news media eats this stuff up and so does the gullible public. Psychological warfare to erode public support for the military. Right out of communist playbook. :cuss: :fire:

Toasty

Fox is reporting he didn't do all that well. Just got a little burned before he got put out.

Considering the mood of the public in the US considering 911 I doubt if there will be too many tears shed, or too many folk becoming muslim sympathizers as a result of one burning himself up.

Speaking just for myself - the world is a tiny bit safer now with one fewer islamic radical nut job in it. And one has to be pretty radical and definitely a nut job to go out in the blaze of glory this guy chose.

Edited: Just read the guy didn't die. Too bad - he'll probably be so pissed at the botched job that next time he will wrap explosives around himself just to make sure he gets it right.

Man Tries to Set Self Ablaze at White House

Monday, November 15, 2004

WASHINGTON, D.C.?—?An unidentified man tried to set himself on fire outside the White House fence midday Monday, witnesses said.

Onlookers said the incident took place outside the Northwest gate. Uniformed Secret Service (search) agents were seen rushing to surround the man, who had graying hair and glasses. He was heard screaming in pain.

Television cameras captured the aftermath. Smoke hung in the air around the man as paramedics rushed to provide aid. The man appeared to be clutching his hand in pain, but it was unclear how serious his burns were.

A spokesman for the District of Columbia Fire Department (search) said the man suffered burns over about 30 percent of his body.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

I hope you're right, bud! :)

I burnt my index finger cooking steak on my grill last week. Didn't even blister, but it still hurts. I can't imagine the pain this guy is going through. Mentally and physically. I am trying to find some sympathy for this Mooseslum but it might not happen... :scrutiny:

I can't believe that they sell gasoline to crazy people. There ought to be a law against that! /soccer mom voice

Ok how about...

Invesitgators say the fire may have originated in his pants. Witnesses claim they heard him say goodness gracious great balls of fire... :D

(not me, shamelessly stolen from elsewhere ;) )

i DON'T KNOW WHY

we don't have some "reasonable restrictions" on the sale of gasoline! Come on, at least a backround check, and maybe a permit......yes a permit, but only after a 6 hour training course!

Thats for darn sure. I accidently stuck my finger in the flame of a propane torch years ago. Blistered and popped right away, screaming pain for the next 10 hours of my shift (working alone grave yards). Not something I wish to repeat.

12GA: Good one. :D
