Well, I did it. I ordered a pick-me-up.

I kept looking at them. They were sooo close to what I have yearned for for 30 plus years. Flat top frame, 44 Mag, 6-1/2" barrel. I think it was the darned red plastic box that pushed me over the edge. Even though it has an XR3 rather than an XR3 Red grip frame, I put down a deposit for a local dealer to get me a Ruger 50th Anniversary Blackhawk 44 Magnum. I will just have to see what I can do about that gripframe after I get it and do some measuring. At least I will get "no screw in the right grip" Ivories on it.
I had two lung biopsies, March 5th, and 14th. The one last week was ghastly. I can't think of a better word. If you ever hear anyone say needle biopsy and don't hear anesthetic in the same breath, run, don't walk, the hell outta there. Needle is a colorful euphemism for extra fat, loooooong icepick. Now I know what it feels like to lose a knife fight.
The one yesterday was world's better, but today I feel like I got mugged by Arnold in his prime. And he was ticked off.
So, instead of thinking I may have to start selling stuff, or getting my wife set to do it, I said to hell with it and got a new gun. Now I have a reason to look forward to Tuesday anyway. I haven't bought a whole new gun in years. I needed that.

For some reason I enjoy shooting single action revolvers more than any other handgun. You have made an excellent choice with the blackhawk. It will give you many thousands of rounds of fun. As far as the grips go you will either want to change out the grips for smooth ones or wear shooting gloves with full power magnum rounds. I highly recommend some grips from clccustomgrips.com. This guy makes top notch stuff with a perfect fit. His american holly grips simulate ivory without the plastic feel.

Hope your new purchase helps keep the mind off other things. Feel better and happy shooting.

Funny state of affairs we find ourselves in sometimes... Some guy stabs you with giant needles repeatedly then you sell your beloved belongings so you can give him the cash to show your appreciation for his aforementioned stabbings.

Enjoy your revolver!

Sorry to hear about the surgeries, hope the Ruger helps. I am in a 10 day CA wait for my 50th Anniversary...let me know how it shoots once you squeeze off a few rounds.

Wow, hope your health issues get resolved ASAP.

I'm sure you're going to love the Ruger. I have the 50th Anniversary Blackhawk in .357 and it's one of my absolute favorite wheelguns.

Ordered a pick-me-up!

Congratulations Sir. You did exactly the right thing. Don't ever give in to or give up on your health. Get that new gun and go shoot the **** out of it. Don't give in to dire predictions, don't become an emotional cripple by listening to what the medical people tell you. Get out there, enjoy your time with your wife and that new gun. Give'em Hell!

You did good on the Blackhawk.
Hope everything else works out for you.

Too bad you didn't have that Blackhawk with you at the biopsies.

You could have placed it beside you and said, "This procedure isn't going to hurt, is it?"

Best wishes, enjoy the heck out of that Ruger!

:D

Virginian, I offer my prayers - and my thanks for the inspiration. I think you've just pushed me over the edge, too. I'm old enough I can't be sure how long I've got left to enjoy this hobby, so I think I'll go shopping tomorrow. :)
