Well, I Got The Model 10, Here It Is

I looked at a NIB Trooper in 1978 when I bought my Security Six that listed at $219. Yes, I'd say that was a screamin' deal.

So, you've spent $650 on used guns in a couple of days? Wait right here while I go get the ol' lady to read this. Maybe she'll get off my arse... :D

I'm sad because there are no pawn shops near me who have firearms. There are only 2 pawn shops listed in the phone books in my area and neither deal in any type of firearm at all. Very sad, very sad.:(

Very nice finds IMO, you are very lucky and were smart to jump on those guns... Great find.

Don't be all that sad. I see a number of people bragging about the deals they've gotten at pawn shops. While I don't doubt their word, my only experience with pawn shops is the ones around Ft. Knox in the '80s. Every one I went into had grossly overpriced junk that they were eager to sell to the uninformed by any means necessary, including outright lies.

My pawnshop gun experience is more like any random episode of Law & Order (or Men in Black) than that described by those who got great deals.

Sounds like I need to clarify. These were not purchased at a "pawn" shop. I buy all of my firearms from my local gun dealer/shop, including these 3. The owner often takes consignments and she also buys guns from the general public for grossly under book value. I am such a good customer that she often offers some of her profit to me by way of the "good customer discount". Actually, I have never purchased any gun from a liscensed dealer other than her. She always gives me a good deal and I always come back.:D

Saying that dealers buy guns below market value is an UNDERSTATEMENT.

I worked a dealership in the 1980's and by boss would really "Rob" folks that had something to get rid of.....

We had a PERFECT/MINT/UNFIRED S&W .32 hand ejector come into the store one day... The boss "gave" it to me for $100... later confided that he paid some old fella $10 for it... he told the guy that it was unsafe to shoot......

That's in poor taste if you ask me. I have a funny feeling that this still happens on a daily basis around the country.

Ya, my dealer usually rips-off old widows. They come in with thier deceased husband's mint Colt Python and the dealer says " I can give you $100 for it". However, I can't complain because that's why I'm getting good deals. It's kind of sickening, but that's life. Gun shows around here are a total joke. These guys with a C&R think that thier laminated re-arsenal Mosin Nagant is worth the $300 price they put on them. Ya, thats bad.

M10s

CTD had LEO trade-in Model 10-8s last month for $179.95. I bought one, should have bought 2. Turned out they came from a French prison (Never fired, dropped once?) and have some sort of French markings. Bore was shiney, finish was very worn, sideplate was rusty, and the timing was suspect. Also had those big ugle LEO rubber grips.
I stripped it down, removed the blue & rust, reblued with cold blue. Swapped around for some nice wood target grips. And replaced the cylinder lock bolt.
Now it looks great, cycles fine. Nice gun. Total expense $200.
Sorry no pics yet. I'll probably redo the finish once more with something more durable.

Hey Jackal, I played around with that fourth photo of the box in PS a little. As far as I can tell, it says 139 312. Now since the lettering is kind of worn away, that 9 may be a 7 with the Euro-y crossbar, and the 3 after it may be an 8. I can't make anything out of the lettering above it, except that one character may be an H.

Lightening and darkening don't help that much, it showed up a bit better when I reverse-negatived the image. You might try doing that old detective trick of allowing some kind of non-staining powder to settle into the indentations left in the box.
