I was loading some 44 mag. Had been doing some real flame throwers: 240 gr JHPs on top of 20 gr of 2400. That's just shy of max.

Then I switched over to making some lighter stuff. Same 240 gr JHP, but on top of 7.5 gr of Red Dot. So, I emptied the powder measure and put the 2400 back on the shelf, and filled the powder measure up with Red Dot.

Good Lord, I had already thrown my first drop of powder when i realized it was still set to throw 20 grs of 2400! :what::what::what:

That would have ruined my day. And maybe much worse.

I've been loading for a long time. Never, ever made that kind of mistake.

Ya'll keep an eye on what you're doing. I know i will.

Glad you caught it.

Whatever the weight of the Red Dot was at the 2400 setting, you are right, it would have ruined your day.

FWIW...every time I load I use index cards with the powder, bullet weight, seating depth. Have one for every load.

Everything gets cleaned off the bench and I start new each time. Double check powder type and amount, bullet brand and weight, etc.

After the first few times loading trying to pick loads out if a book, it's much less confusing for me to have everything laid out in simple format.

I tend to be ultra impatient and I could see bad things happening if I didn't do it that way.

Glad you caught it.
I have used my bullet puller for sanity checks every now and then.
Proved I was sane but, I was thinking did I or didn't I, ok bullet puller time rrrrrr.
Better safe than sorry.
