well i found that ruger makes the convertible in 45 colt 45 acp with the extra cylinder so my question is how good are these revolvers and are they accurate with both types of ammo? thanks!! ;)

I have one too and love it. I got the SS 5.5 Bisley model and it shoots well with both calibers.

I've had one about a year now and like it a LOT. Mine is REALLY getting nicely slicked up and shoots absolutely great with both rounds.

Mine is a great shooter with both cylinders. Only thing is that POI changes significantly - but there is a big difference between heavy hunting loads in LC and SD rounds in ACP - so that is to be expected.

Get it, you'll love it.

Got my New Model Blackhawk convertible, blued with 7.5" barrel, used in the mod-80s and have put thousands of both calibers through it. Wonderfully accurate and comfortable. The 45 acp cylinder is so good I seldom use a 45 auto anymore. If you like the calibers, you will love the revolver.

Not trying to be the bad guy here, but this question comes up at least once a month here. The search engine is your friend.

The Ruger Convertible 45 is such a well built firearm that it really doesn't make much sense to buy a non convertible model. Even for people who will never buy 45 acp ammo, it's just a good idea to have the extra cylinder around.

Search functions don't always work. And when they do you get a million hits unrelated to your original search question. What's wrong with asking a question that's been asked before? Someone might have some new info to add.

Here on my farm I carry a .45 convertible in my truck or atv. Both calibers are a hoot to shoot and I haven't seen any difference in accuracy between the two calibers.

My next Ruger is going to be a convertible. I've always shied away from .45 Colt simply because I don't reload and wanted more of a thump than the CAS loads. However, if I could shoot my .45apc in the same gun, then I would be more apt to buy some premium .45 Colt or maybe start reloading it here and there.

Besides, as long as the gun is well built and accurate, I can't see a real downside to having something that shoots two of the most iconic american cartridges with a simple swap of the barrel...might make my .357s jealous though;)

I had one for a while. After a year or so it occurred to me that I had never used the ACP cylinder. It helped solidify my opinion that the convertable is much better in theory, than in actual practice. There literally isn't anything the ACP can do that the 45 Colt can't. Mine is now gone in favor of a Colt, but it was a good gun that I simply grew tired of. My tastes were changing to more traditionally styled guns. Ruger builds an excellent revolver.

4 3/4" convertible. With deer loads in the 45 Colt cylinder it groups as well at 50 yards as my 500 20 ga. The acp cylinder does just fine and is great for unloading those shells that my 1911 doesn't like.

I bought my Old 3 Screw 45 Cal Blackhawk Convertible, in 1972. And all though I have several Hand Guns now, this Old Ruger Blackhawk is with out dought my favorite. Mine is the 7 1/2 inch model and I have shot 1000`s of rounds thru this old gun, both 45LC & 45ACP. In my Gun the 45ACP`s POI is about 1 inch above the 45LC`s POI at 25 yds. I have used this Old Ruger to hunt with, plink with, and target practise with. I have Killed 2 deer and several pigs with it over the years. Other than a set of Stag Grips and a trigger shoe, my gun is just like it came from the factory. And it shoots as good now as when I first bought it new, 42 years ago.

Blackhawk convt.

I bought one a couple years ago and it is without a doubt one of my favorite chicken & pig killer (local club silhouettes) It's a hoot and will handle from mild to wild depending on my mood. Planning on carrying for deer now that Im getting confident with it.

I made my own 45 Colt/45 acp convertible. I had a 4 5/8 sst Blackhawk in 45 Colt. I found a blue 45 acp cylinder at a gunshow and bought it for $40 and it worked just fine. I think it actually shot better with blue 45 acp cylinder than it did with the original 45 Colt cylinder

I bought a new Blackhawk .45 Convertible 4 5/8 barrel about 3 months ago. Most accurate non-custom handgun I've ever shot. I can it a paper plate at 100 yards standing with it about 50% of the time, and I am not that great of a shot.

Like many will say, the .45 ACP cylinder may be more accurate, but the Buffalo Bore 45 LC heavy ammo for it really shines past 50 yards. Only downfall is reloads might not fit well since it uses a ledge in the cylinder and not moon clips with the .45 ACP... but thats just my observation.

If youre thinking about getting one, you should. You will not find a more versatile weapon for under $1000 anywhere.... and it only costs $500

Howdy

Old story here. It's 1975 and I was ready to buy my first single action revolver. I knew I wanted one in 45 Colt, not 44 Mag. Just wanted to shoot 45 Colts, was not interested in 45 ACP. Found this one in a local shop. Came with both cylinders. Brand, spanky new in the box, $150 (remember, this was 1975). $150 was a lot of money for a kid in his twenties back then, so I asked the dealer if I could have it for less with just the 45 Colt cylinder. He looked at me like the dumb kid I was and said no, I had to buy the whole thing or nothing. I coughed up the money and bought it.

It was probably twenty years before I actually fired the ACP cylinder, but I have never been sorry I bought both cylinders.

P.S. If your 45ACP reloads are loaded correctly, there is no reason they won't fit and fire correctly.

From my cold, dead fingers.
I put a pair of CLC grips made of pink holly wood.
I replaced the thumb buster hammer with a Super Blackhawk hammer.
I installed a Wolff trigger spring.
I love it.
It will probably replace both of my .44 mags as a backup gun when hunting deer/hogs with a rifle.
Not that I'd get rid of my .44 mags. I'll still use them for handgun hunting.

I own a newer convertible in .45 Colt/.45ACP. It's a great revolver and fun to shoot. It has a 4 5/8" barrel, and I carry it loaded with .45 Colt for hiking.

The .45ACP combo, is not quite as accurate as the .45 Colt. It may have a bit to do with the longer bullet jump. However, it's a ball to shoot with just about anything.

If I had it to do over, I would probably opt for the 5 1/2" model. It seems a bit better balanced than the others.

No matter which you choose, you can't go wrong.

il.bill I plan on in feburay the wife and I are looking at that time to buy this pistol, money will be easier to work with that time but its soon coming! :)

I have a pair that I got in 2001/2. They are beautifully made and very accurate from each cylinder.

I recommend without reservation.
