I have a strict buying regiment for ammunition that I stuck by for several years now. Need one box of ammo, buy two, that sort of thing. Every month I'd pick a little more ammo to add to the stash in case of a situation like the one we're experiencing now, but of course that buying regiment is not possible now. The conditioned consumer in me demands purchases though, and without any ammo to buy I've been looking at things that I kinda need but put on the backburner.

For one, I updated my reloading and cleaning stations with new peg boards as well as picked up an ultrasonic cleaner (always wanted one of those). I also got into custom parts for the firearms I already own, like my Ruger 22/45 that now is full of Volq parts and totally worth it! Extra gear, new holsters, etc. All stuff that's readily available while I wait out the storm.

So I was wondering if anyone finds themselves doing this as well? It's nice being one of the very few who slowly saunters into the fun shop not full of anxiety and rage over whether or not I'll find ammo but instead all I need is right there on the shelf! Not that I'm bragging or anything...;)

shift your money to other hobbies... cars, women, booze making. :D

better yet, buy one bank another. that way when prices go back to reasonable you can buy all the ammos!

lol, when 7.62x39 began to get too expensive for me I switched to 7.62x54

when 7.62x54 became hard to find I switched to .22

when all .22 disappeared off the face of the earth, I ordered a IZH-60 pellet rifle

It will be here any day now :) ordered a couple hundred pellets go go along with it.

It really does seem like the hobby is ditching me!

Nothing really. I picked up some .22LR that was on sale back in November of last year and that was the last firearms related purchase that I made. Just saving up right now so that when something finally hits the marketplace I will hopefully be able to afford it.

I bought three 100rd boxes of WWB 9mm last night at walmart.

200 green tips from a guy on Armslist for 50 cents a round.

180 S&B M193 rounds for $10 a 20rd box.

I've been constantly looking and buying when available.

Bought my BCMs piece by piece.

I've been using this panic as an opportunity to get things cheaper...wait for lowers and uppers to come in stock - buy 3, sell 2 for the panic rate on Gunbroker and end up with cheap or free complete rifles.

7.62x65r, 7.62x39 and 5.45x39 are all available online for decent prices of you search.

As such, I have been shooting my SGL-21 a lot more than anything else. I can actually find 7.62x39 cheaper than 9x19!

Who would have thought... the Russians would be the ones helping us uphold our freedom?
LOL

I am buying what i can find. Used to only buy a box of 12ga when needed(dont shoot it much. Absolutly hate recoil) but since its plentiful right now am stocking up.

I just switched to my other (obsession) I mean hobby,
Knifes ordered a microtech ultratech otf automatic, and next week sending for a piranha Excalibur..

Pinestraw and fertilizer mostly. Spent last Saturday building a stone fire pit. Have a new rifle, brass, powder, primers and bullets, but my dies were supposed to ship last week and still haven't seen them. :( Might try to load some 6.5 CM with 6.5x55 dies; I've done it with -06 in .308 neck dies...

"what you been buying lately?"

Certainly not range time, since I can't expect to replenish my expenditure of rimfire ...

Let's see, one pistol caliber carbine, one shotgun and one pistol in the last 3 months. Haven't purchased commercial ammo in the last 7 years except for shotgun shells. Reading all these no ammo posts just makes me depressed, have to go reload some more 45 ACP to cheer myself up now and remind myself that it's only 4 months into this panic period, it will end in another 6 months or so.

Had thought about buying a new progressive press but even they are backordered and components are impossible to find, so might as well wait.

Jim

I have found and bought three different bricks of 22 LR at normal prices in the last three weeks via Midway and Natchez.
And there is starting to be a reasonable supply of .223 and 7.62x39 at the local Academy.

I forgot about my Russian beauty, the 91/30 I bought just to say I used my C&R. I see a spam can or two as my next buy!

Certainly not range time, since I can't expect to replenish my expenditure of rimfire ...

I am sorry to hear that as that was I four years ago. Not to rub salt in your wound but one of the nicer things about all of this is it's keeping the range I go to empty. Ah, paradise!

Right now I'm contemplating buying a recurve bow, compound bow, or a new carry gun (either an m&p 40 or glock 23). I know I can't find ammo for the pistols, but its so hard to turn down buying a new gun...especially one I'd carry and shoot better than the pistols I already own. With the bows I can shoot them in the backyard and arrows are reusable! Choices choices....!

Wife already said no to plate armor so that idea is out too.

Crossman Nitro Venom Dusk air blaster. 1k-1200fps with pointy pellets. Trigger sucks, but good enough for plinking and small game elimination.

Carter, Get the recurve! I dusted off my old bear 50# bow (bow strings still available :) ) and have been having a blast w/ it.

Two crossbows and some bolts for hunting plus the usual practice ones, a little ammo here and there when it's on the shelves at Walmart. Lots of black powder making materials, lots of cap gun paper rolls (still buying a bunch every week) to make primers, casting equipment, materials to make casting molds (molding clay), a 3D Printer (to make mags).

I bought a box of .303 British to make molds of the bullets as I eye a couple sporterized Ennfield beaters at a local pawnshop that have been sitting there for a couple of years. When my next big payday comes in I'm buying up both for $400 (each is $275) and spending another $100 on replacement parts (buttstock end, etc.), and then use my homemade primers with the rifle and play with black powder in the rifles. I've got a reloading setup for British .303 that I bought off a grey beard gunnie along with a bunch of clean spent brass (he didn't keep the primers unfortunately so I'm going to make my own from aluminum can material).

I'm still waiting on my letter back from the ATF if I can paly around with making my own Nitroglycerin and Nitrocellulose (probably start off with my own form of Poudre B and then work up the nitroglycerin).I won't make amounts for more than five rounds of ammo if the ATF says I can so I won't risk anything worse than some nasty burns. To stabilize and reduce the incindiary effect of the nitrocellulose you add a small amount of urea to it. Then there's the whole petroleum jelly, graphite, and other desensitizers involved. And yes I know to use nitric and sulfuric acid and to wash the nitrocellulose with cold water and store the materials in a cold environment preferably 36 degrees or lower ( already have the mini-fridge).

I've already got a bunch of AR-15s, CETMEs, FALs, a couple AKs, etc.. Now it's about learning how to make guns and ammo.

I'm buying whenever it presents itself. I expect prices to continue to rise and come July and ammo is still hard to find it will become a feeding frenzy for what ammo that still makes it to market. Reasonable prices for 9mm abd 45acp will be 65-75 cents per round. Those who have decided to wait may wish they hadn't.

Todays Price for 45acp at Academy was 62 cents a round. Just plain plinking ammo. The ammo that they had to put out was sparse. They got 4 boxes of the UMC 250 round boxes of 9mm. I was seventh in line today and was lucky to be able to get one of them. The cost was $69.99 or 30 cents a round. I haven't seen any 40s&w in awhile as its dried up just like 22lr.

SIG-551a1 w/ (5) 20rd magazines

TGI AK74 w/ (3) magazines

3 Spam cans of 5.45x39 (should last me a long time)

400rds of Winchester 5.56 (got this on the cheap somehow)

Bought all of this with the money that I made selling a few guns and accessories the last couple of months.

I'm still buying ammo when I find it. I've gotten myself a pretty good supply of 357 and 38 spl that still seems to be some what available around here which is fortunate for me because that's what I've been feeling like shooting lately.

I've still added 3-4 guns through all of this as well but they've all been the "non-evil" looking variety that seem to still be available. Bolt actions, lever actions and revolvers. Although I've noticed the prices of revolvers starting to climb. I picked up a GP100 for $500 early January and was at the same store that had the same gun two days ago and were asking $600.

Accessories: slings, scopes, red dots, gun security improvements, training, 18" barrel for shotgun, etc, etc. Actual guns are only a small part of the budget.

Car and motorcycle parts! I have an old bike to get in shape. I also shoot archery where there is no panic so I get my shooting fix in my backyard!

My other (more) expensive hobby- cars. I bought a set of wheels that needed to be refinished/restored badly, and they were ridiculously cheap because if it. Since I'm not shooting I've got some time for the project. Currently stashing money away for some new coilovers.
