I have been shopping for a replacement 1911 for some time. After much comparisons and thought, I thought Dan Wesson PM7 (CA approved) was a viable substitute for STI Trojan that's not CA approved. However, trying to buy one of 200 produced each years is another story. I considered buying a S&W 1911 (see signature) if I could not get a PM7.

Well, my indoor range was having their semi-annual sale with good prices (for CA) and I was checking out several pistols when my shooting friend who just retired said, "Let me buy your Taurus Mil Pro PT145 for my retirement present." I was holding a 4.5" S&W M&P45 with thumb safety. SOLD. ($610 for M&P45 and PT145 sold for a very happy "retirement" price of 2 used laptops he no longer needed for wife and daughter).

I will continue my endeavor to get the DW PM7.

Thanks to the CA waiting period, M&P45 will come home in about 2 weeks.

I think you'll be pretty happy with that M&P. When you're ready for a nicer trigger pull, get the replacement parts from Apex Tactical

Good for you man! Do not however give up on that DW! Not sure how the used market is out west but a bit of hunting around might pay off.

Not sure if I mentioned it before but speedshooterspecialties has a great selection of aftermarket products and MidWayUSA is picking up the pace as well. Don't forget to log on to S&W for the rebate "Born in the USA" for $50 or two free mags.

Enjoy the new pistol and be safe.

Thanks. Major push for the M&P45 was the consideration of using it for USPSA match shooting. I am currently using G22 and CA legal 10 rd mags and M&P45 10 rd mags closed the deal. Will be mailing the coupon in for 2 extra free mags and probably pick up 2 more soon for total of 6 mags.

I am thinking about switching to IDPA as USPSA match ranges are farther to drive so M&P45 will remain stock.

Trigger jobs are allowable in IDPA. My Plastic M&P 9mm with Burwell trigger and fibre optic sight is a fine IDPA SSP. The Apex parts are pretty well DIY.

You can shoot the Plastic M&P .45 in either SSP vs 9mms (with ammo loaded as light as will function the gun) or in CDP (loaded with 8+1) versus the 1911s.

Thanks for the trigger job suggestions ... was not aware of that particular IDPA rule.

I shoot several 1911's in 45 ACP. Recently I purchased a S&W M&P45 - very pleasantly surprised by it's totl reliability and accuracy - 2 in or less groups at 50 ft with a wide variety of handloads including 185 gr. LSWC's.

Picked up the M&P45 today. Will be cleaning it tonight for range test tomorrow.

After a few boxes of factory FMJ, I'll start out with my reference load of 200 gr SWC loaded with W231/HP38 then WSF, Bullseye, Green Dot and even Promo.

Got N320, WST and Clays coming from Powder Valley, so I'll post comparison results in Handloading and Reloading section later.

Wife says if I am happy with M&P45, I should hold out and buy a new STI Trojan for my retirement.
