My first shotgun, a Benelli Nova Pump:) This is my first shotgun, and i was looking for something versatile. this gun can shoot several different kinds of shells, to suite all my needs. It is really light to for being such a long gun.

I cant wait to put some shells through it:evil:
 
Congrats on the addition to your family. don't forget to add it to your list of kids
 
Congrats! I hope this is the beginning of a shotgun addiction for you! Mine started with a 12ga pump also.
 
B.D. Turner- Berettas are very nice, but an autoloader is a little out of my price range, cause im only 16:uhoh: . But someday.

Its nice seeing all good replies about the Nova. Has no one had any problems with it? Is there any certain shells it disagrees with?
 
sm is one of the old timers around here. I think he's had some bad luck with Novas- there have been like seven or eight of them break when he was shooting them.

That's why I said, don't let him get anywhere around it. It'll break...

Lee- Good lord:what: what does he do to break that many :confused: Hopefully ill get a chance to shoot it this weekend. I also want to try some slugs through this gun.

Do i leave the choke in with slugs? if so, which one?

Zero...DO NOT shoot slugs through a smooth bore barrel.

Likely the 26" you have is not rifled for slugs and you will tear the hell outta it.

If you want, take a look on ebay, sportsmansguide.com or benelli-usa.com for the rifled barrels.
 
Shooting slugs in a smooth bore is fine. You do not need to barrel to be rifled.

Do not shoot it without a choke in place, though. The threads can get boogered up that way. I would use the IC choke for slugs. Some people would also use the M choke, but few (if any) would use the F choke.
 
allright, now im confused. i got one reply saying dont shoot slugs out of a smooth bore, and another saying shoot them with the IC choke. I figured the slug barrel was rifled for accuracy reasons. But they go in excess of 170 dollars on eBay. i would hate to see what benelli wants for them.

More reinforcement on the slugs issure would be greatly appreciated:)
 
Been shooting slugs through smoothbores without a prob for nigh on 50 years. Using open chokes and bead sight, I can keep them inside 3" at 50 yards. SO can most folks withs some testing and practice.

However, decent sights and slug selection make the shotgun a 100 yard tool.

That is, if the shooter is up to it.

See how you do with some rifled slugs and Brenekke design slugs. If your average shot on deer is 30 yards like mine, it's easy to set up and use a choke, slug combination that's accurate by slug standards.
 
A rifled choke tube often aids accuracy. My slug shooter of choice wears one before and during the season.

However, it gains about 1" at 100 yards over a plain Cylinder choke in another 870 which also has lots of venison behind it.

YMMV. Only testing with YOUR equipment will tell for sure.
