The Mooresville n.c store.
Wow well first and foemost they have about one of everyting.:) it was huge had lots of weapons, ammo and accessories. plus they give a military discount. 10% ammo and other, and 5% for weapons just fyi. they had hings that i haven't ben able to find at other gun shop, and i got to handle a bunch of stuff that i neve had the chance to before.
Pro's
1)Huge selection of ammo and weapons not only types but prie ranges as well. ie colt, bushmaster, high standard ar's etc.
2)long arms on the floor so thy were easily able to check out.
3)black rifles a plenty!
4)they do run decent specials here and there.
5)90 day lay away plan.
6) Good selection of used handguns

Con's
1)so-so customer service, not very gun smart on some things.
2)prices were crazy high on most stuff ie. magazines, ammo and the like.
3)lots of mrchandice didn't have prices, and the sales reps had to be asked and like i said above that left a little to be desired.
4) all the handguns had trigger locks and it was hard to get a good feel for the handguns with them on there.

all in all i give it a +1 over dicks and bass pro shops, and about on par for cabelas. Hope this thread has been helpful to somone. thanks!

I tried to stop at that same store while I was up there during Thanksgiving, but they were closed. I'll try again over the Christmas break. My inlaws are less than 5 miles from that store.

If you like Gander Mountain wait till you have a Sportsmans Warehouse in your area!! They are my absolute favorite big box sporting goods store. They have fair prices and semi knowledgable staff.

I gotta tell you.
I get far more chuckles from the local Dunhams than I do from the Gander store.
Gander sure is proud of their used firearm collection here too and they price them so high that nobody will be actually interested in buying anything.
I have seen Cabela stores do the same thing with their 'Gun Libraries'.

+1 on Sportsman's Warehouse

Prices there are at least realistic. I've shopped at Cabela's, Bass Pro, Sportsman's Warehouse, and Gander Mountain. Gander Mountain's prices are insanely high. I think it may be due to the fact that they're generally located in smaller markets. I guess they figure since they don't have to compete with anyone else, they can charge anything they want.
Sportsman's Warehouse has prices more in line with Cabela's and Bass Pro. Maybe a little more reasonable. Plus Sportsman's Warehouse has a really good supply of reloading supplies, and I believe those are priced pretty competitively.

Gander Mtn that is down the road here (spring, texas area) there is an excellent example of pricing done by idjiot monkees with some managment powers...

sporterized 1903A3 Springfield with a decent stock and an older USA Redfield scope...

they were asking 1199.00....I laughed my way out of the store....

Don't know if it's true at all Sportsman's Warehouses, but the one near Milwaukee, WI, does not deal in used hand guns. Nice selection of new onces, though, and the staff has been friendly and knowledgeable so far, although all the long guns are behind the counter so you have to ask to see each one.

The Gander Mountain here in Janesville does have all the (vary nice collection of) long guns out and they do have a small selection of used hand guns and long guns, but their new selection of hand guns is definitely not as good as Sportsman's Warehouse, and I would not give the staff as good of a rating especially in the knowledge department. It depends on whom you talk to that day.

Just my opinion on these two particular stores. Your mileage will vary.

To say they are not very knowledgable regarding firearms is an understatement. To say that they over price the used guns is also understatment on the grandest scale. Most of the used firearm prices are a 10 to 15% reduction from NIB. Nasty piece of garbage mini 14 at my local Gander Mountain was only 50.00 less than a brand new one.
The Staff behind the gun counter is hit or miss especially if you get some kid in college who wants you to take his word and Gospel inspired from above. I have little if anything good to say about the firearms part of their operation. The rest of the store has fantastic deals, and I do spend money at GM but not on firearms.

The one near me is the same way. I was in there Saturday and they had a sporterized 03 Springfield mislabeled as a "Krag", and carrying a $899 pricetag.

oh that is one hing i forgot to mention they did have used handguns and that is a plus for me. i don't mind buyin used at all, so i guess that is another pro the store here.

When I drive to Austin, there is a GM on the way on 290. I've stopped there a couple of times but it's not that great. I'd rather by pass it and wait until I get to Austin/Round Rock and go to the Sportsman's Warehouse.

The people are nicer, the prices are better, and the selection in all areas is better

At the Gander Mountain I go to they take the trigger locks off the handguns when they hand them to you. That's how I have experienced it at least.

I live nearby a ton of gun shops so I shop around for the best price when I want something

Gander Mountain- 10 minutes away
Sportman's Warehouse- 15 minutes away
Cabelas- 20 minutes away
3 Smaller family owned gun shops are all within 15 minutes

Easy killas.

The help at the Gander Mountain is completely dependant on who is helping you. Most of the guys at our store are pretty bright.

Some of the used guns prices are insane. Most of the ones we have bought or taken in as trades are priced fairly, but the ones they ship from other stores are high like cat's back. Worn Mini-14GB for $999. hahahah I felt bad putting that on the shelf. Most of the new gun prices are comparable to others though, and some of the sales are good deals.

see that makes since and what i was figuring thy would do.

that is squared away and must be nice!

I haven't bought a firearm from Gander for the reason of their prices beign too high. I go there to fondle the wares and check out different models, then go to local dealers or another store to buy the model I want.

Most amusing thing seen at GM- tag on rifle read: WWII russian service rifle, $399

This tag was hanging on a shot out romanian M-44 worth 1/10th that price.

Gander Mountain's prices on firearms are high, no doubt about it. I was window shopping in the Beaumont, TX store a couple of weeks ago and saw a new 4" Ruger GP-100 with the stainless finish for $519.99. Shooters Supply, the gun shop across Highway 69, has that same gun for $479, and I picked mine up for about $445 from a small FFL down in Port Arthur, M&T Firearms. I've heard they'll match the lower prices, but I've never tested that theory. Most of my gun money has gone to Shooters and M&T. They've been good to me, so I figure, why not...

They had a decent deal on shotguns last week. $50 of any autoloader, plus and additional 5% of if you got one of their credit cards, plus a $25 gift card. I bought a Benelli M2 and came out substaintially ahead of any internet deal I looked at. They also threw in an extended in store warranty on the gun since they screwed the up the deal the first time and it took them a while to figure out how to fix it. It is a new store and the employees were still learning. They were fairly knowledgeble on guns and helpful.

Nice collection of old guns at the Gander I've gone to. The little .25 pocket pistols - Colt and Browning... one was at 400.
Then there was a Webley Mark IV... labelled as a Mark V. Now, if they'd only label a Mark VI as a Mark IV, and price accordingly, I'd do them a nice bit of business.

bru333, thank you very much hopefully i will be in america at least and hopefully there for the grand opening!

I went to the Mooresville Gander Mountain about two weeks ago to pick up some new .22lr and some 12 and 20 gauge ammo and to look at what they had on sale. Also picked up a couple of those ammo cases they had for quite cheap.

Pretty much agree that the prices are a tad high at that store and they have a fairly good gun selection. Had my eye on one of the Savages before getting that look from my wife and reminded its either paying the heating bill and eating or that.

power and eating is a crutch!:D

The one in Indianapolis,IN is very good, some things are not competitive but I picked up a .22lr pistol and a Walther P1 for a good price. The staff are competent and knowledgable in the firearms section.
