Well that is what I had intended to do, just either get a hair cut or my dog license. The barber shop I like going to is next door to a Pawn/Gun shop that I have had major contact with for the last 20 yrs or better. The barbershop was closed which means got to be there tomorrow when they open. But since I could not get a haircut decided to go see friends at the Pawn shop. The original owners was a husband and wife that were both really good friends, the woman passed away after a hard battle with cancer in 1997. The man has been battling his own health issues but finally lost last part of 2013. When I went into the Pawn shop it was almost empty, they were in process of hanging signs up CLOSING/OUT OF BUSINESS which didn't surprise me but still took me off guard. After meet and greet with friends I looked at gun rack, only one shotgun and that was it, a Maverick 88 that looked like it had just been taken out of the box. Asked out of curiosity How Much, the reply was so quick I had to ask a second time. $105.00 out the door, I know the Mossberg hybrid Maverick is not a super high dollar shot gun but I have wasted more that $100.00 on bad food at restaurants so what do you think I did. Yes it's mine at least for a little while, that is how I justified it to the wife.
Just wish I had been able to go sooner no telling just what they sold at give away prices.

I would have snatched it up for $105 too. Heck, my hair cuts cost me $50.

The Mossberg Maverick is the best buy going these days in shotguns. The only difference between the Maverick and the more expensive model 500 Mossberg is the forend and the location of the safety. The trigger gaurd on the 500 used to be metal, but lately they are shipping them with the same plastic trigger group from the Maverick to save money.

So you only paid $105? The last one I bought was a like new pawn shop find for $150 out-the-door. You beat me by $45. I have two Mavericks currently, and if I ever see one for $105 in like new shape, I will have a third. As I am writing this, I am sitting here with a sore right shoulder. I took a Maverick out shooting this weekend with some slugs and buckshot. She kicks like an angry mule, so be careful.

I went grocery shopping with my dad and bought a tractor. So, going for a haircut and buying a gun makes perfect sense to me. My wife understands comepletely as she hunts and gardens extensively. You will enjoy your new toy more than the haircut and it will last longer too.

Sounds like a good buy to me.

Girodin- I'm sorry for you. $50 for a haircut? I pay $8 to my old barber and I get to talk guns and farming with him the entire time.

I get at that price in a heartbeat,
$50.00 for a haircut ( I use a $10.00 set of clippers got at the Dollar store 4 yers ago) .
My haircuts cost around 50 cents each with electricity thrown in.

Dang. Glad I don't have a haircut expense. My $20 clippers from Wallyworld last me a few years and I cut my hair with no guard. No shampoo, no comb needed, no sweaty matted hair in the summer. Started shaving my head with no guard about 3.5 years ago and I'd never go back to having long hair. This is too convenient.

Nice pickup on the gun.

Dug thru my ammo chest and found a fairly decent spread of 12ga shells from #8 shot up to 00 Buck. Had no intention of really keeping this but I went to back of property and now I think it's got a home. I do have a slip on Limb Saver that takes a lot of the recoil out of it, in my younger days the harder a shotgun kicked the better I liked it. I used it as therapy after the end of a work week when the stress level was close to exceeding sanity. But the Maverick really felt good, the 28" barrel will take a little to get accustom to since most of what I shoot has shorter barrels. I did get to introduce a young man to shooting a shotgun, he is my neighbor's son-in-law up until today the only fire arm he had ever fired was a SKS that belonged to his father. I had him all keyed up expecting it to kick him to the ground and stomping on his shoulder. I loaded up 5 rounds and gave him a quick how to and afterwards was a grin from ear to ear.
