After living in the Mini-14/Mini-30 world for some time, I decided an AR would be a nice addition to my collection. I prowled around a bit, and landed on the Sig 556 SWAT as the one that suited me best. It's only been out to the range once, but the first 160 rounds went through it without a hiccup. I'm pleased with this "non-proprietary" choice...

IIRC that's a SWAT Patrol (shortened gas system). I have the regular "Patrol" with the standard forend. The 556's are all now very nice weapons. Early ones had sporadic problems (fixed several years ago so you needn't worry) but Sig has evolved the 556 into a nice weapon that is very reliable and doesn't "sh*t where it eats," as the AR - 15 system is said to (a reference to DI operation).
Sigs are a little heavier than the AR but the mechanism, derived a few generations of rifles ago, from the Kalashnikov system, is more robust & reliable.

A note: Many 556s eject spent brass rather robustly and they often "kiss" the receiver just in back of the election port. If you don't like this a piece of felt velcro is a solution many owners use. Some just let the bluing where down and consider the resulting shiny area a sign of a "working tool" as opposed to a "safe queen."

Best of luck with yours. You've added on sime nice options there!

I love my 556. I can tell you this. As a CQB rifle, it's a brick. Very heavy. Low ready is murder if you're in it for very long. Your deltoid muscles will be screaming pretty quickly. Up-drills become grueling pretty quick. Now, having said all that, my 556 has not failed on any round of any kind except a blank with an AR blank firing adapter. It eats whatever crap I throw into it with boring monotony, and keeps running after thousands and thousands of rounds sans cleaning.

My confidence in my rifle's reliability is 100%. It shoots about 1.25 - 1.5 MOA depending on ammo and shooter, and with its reliability, that is Just Fine with me.

Solid rifle. Very solid rifle.

I have the 556 Classic, and not only is it extremely reliable, I find it very easy to shoot well. Recoil is less than my ARs with the same load. Yep, dings brass right in the middle of the case body, but not real bad, and flings it between 1 to 2 o'clock 15 to 18 feet. I like the nice solid folding stock, and it is also easy to shoot well with it folded. Very nice. A buddy let me shoot his, and I was hooked immediately.

Congrats! that is a sweet rifle. I've shot a friend's Sig556 at the range and it was pretty sweet, although i'm not used to the side charging handle.
