Places to Shoot in Capitol State Forest Near Olympia

Some buddies and I are heading down to Capitol State Forest near Olympia to do some camping and hopefully some plinking. As noted above, THIS implies shooting is permitted in the forest (see text on first page bottom right), and I confirmed that with the Thurston County Sheriff's office.

I'm looking at the map, and see some good places to check out (un-gated spurs with no other roads, trails or other improvements nearby). Can anyone suggest specific locations? Please PM me if you don't want to share them with the whole world.

BTW, this might be the page the other Capitol Forest poster was trying to find:

http://www.stage.dnr.wa.gov/htdocs/lm/recreation/waddellcreekpit.html

It says the Wadell Creek pit is closed, but it also says:

I just noticed this today. I've been to that pit since this was posted and shot my .45 there. I would estimate there were about 20 others using this area as well.

Dave Workman wrote an article about 36 CFR 261.1 awhile back. LINK Looks like more and more Districts are using it to restrict shooting.

Title 36: Parks, Forests, and Public Property
PART 261—PROHIBITIONS
Subpart A—General Prohibitions

§ 261.10 Occupancy and use.

The following are prohibited:

* * *

(d) Discharging a firearm or any other implement capable of taking human life, causing injury, or damaging property as follows:

(1) In or within 150 yards of a residence, building, campsite, developed recreation site or occupied area, or

(2) Across or on a National Forest System road or a body of water adjacent thereto, or in any manner or place whereby any person or property is exposed to injury or damage as a result in such discharge.

* * *

THIS provides some hope, but it was written under a differend Presidential administration.

Dave? Do you have any update on how this reg. is bing used (particularly in WA)?
