I have a Interarms Mark X 223.Im alittle confused on what ammo to use in this rifle.I just restored it as I got it from someone who used it as a "truck gun"and the synthetic showed it.If someone could list what grain and brands of ammo they have found worked well for them,i would appreciate it.

You need to determine the barrels twist rate. Back in the day 1:14 was common and designed for bullets of around 55 gr or less. That would be my guess, but you need to do some research on that or actually measure it. Most newer rifles are twisted much faster and work well with heavier bullets. It seems that 1:8 is the most common anymore with 1:7 used by the military and in many civilian AR rifles. The faster twist barrels usually shoot 55 gr OK, but not anything lighter. They also work well up to 75-77 gr.

I would avoid any 5.56x45 NATO ammunition. It may be safe, it may not.

55gr 223Win should be good to go. It may like heavier or lighter bullets more. But 55gr should be acceptable at least.

I would definitely stick to .223 instead of 5.56 and if it has a slower twist rate, like most have pointed out, go with the lighter bullets.

I have several 223/556s and they are between 1in7 and 1in12, I prefer 62gr bullets over 55gr in everything except the 1in12, especially if shooting over 100yrds, the 1in12 likes 55gr and 52gr. I found at 1 and 200yrds that the 1in7 likes a lighter charge than the 1in8 or 1in9 barrels.

That rifle probably has a "slow" twist rate, so 55 grain and lighter bullets is what I would try not knowing the rate. Stay away from anything marked 5.56 or military surplus, regardless of bullet weight, as those are loaded pretty hot.

My Remington Mod-7 .223 has a 1/12”. It shoots it’s very best with some Hornady 62gr BTHP’s. Really surprised me. It shoots well with 65gr Sierra GameKings (btspt).
However it shoots “patterns” with Hornady 60gr Vmax. It’s the length of the bullet that is critical.

Stick to a soft point bullet 63gr or lighter and you’ll be ok. Any bullet 55gr or under will do ok.

Based on others saying it should be 1:12 twist, I'd definitely stay 55gr and below. Lots of options out there in 50gr and 55gr especially. As far as brand, that you'll really just have to figure out with your rifle. Individual rifles, even of the same brand, seem to have different preferences for whatever reason.

Are you wanting to use it for hunting or just punching holes in paper? For hunting you can get Hornady V-max bullets in 53gr or 55gr that are pretty well regarded, and several brands use them for factory loadings (for example, I have some Armscor 223 55gr loaded with V-Max bullets). The 50gr bullet from Hornady is a GMX, never used them so can't comment on them but being from Hornady I would trust it pretty well. For punching paper, you can find some 55gr HPBT though they aren't especially common that I've noticed ESPECIALLY factory loaded, I usually just find the bullets for sale. Those will generally probably be your best bet for accuracy at that weight.

All of that said, at this point and in this market shoot whatever you can find.

50 or 55 gr, up to 62gr, has worked best for me, Fiocchi has been very good, but it's the only brand name I've used; those are 50gr. The rest I load myself and stick to 50-55 gr bullets, I've experimented with heavier bullets, but they don't shoot great from my gun. I use Sierra bullets with Benchmark, Varget, and H4198, all of which works.

My model 700 1-12 twist shot 40 grain ballistic tips great. ULTRAMAX loaded. I see Buds carried it. I bought it at Scheels.
