Some of you know that I recently offloaded a malfunctioning Kimber Custom II to a pawn shop for a loss, but not a big loss.

This negative experience behind me, I’ve started dreaming about my next handgun purchase. I say dreaming because as of tomorrow I will be out of a job, so there will be no new gun purchases for quite some time.

Despite my problems with Kimber, a company that I will never do business with again, I still love the 1911 platform. I consistently had the BEST accuracy of any pistol I’ve ever shot, the only one that came close is my dad’s late 70s vintage Browning Hi-Power, and I still shot better with the Kimber, malfunctions and all. I will soon inherit my Dad’s Hi-Power, as he doesn’t shoot handguns for pleasure and uses a Colt trooper .357 for home defense.

Once I get the Hi-Power, I’ll have THREE weapons that share the 9mm cartridge. It only makes sense, that IF and WHEN I purchase another 1911 format pistol, it should be one that uses the 9mm.

So, getting to the point. I was just wondering what experiences yall have had with 1911s chambered in 9mm. I’ve heard good things about the Springfield “Loaded” models that are specially setup for 9mm. Any input would be appreciated.

I have a Colt Combat Commander (steel) in 9mm and a Kimber Tactical Pro (alloy frame, 4" ramped barrel, night sights, etc.) in 9mm. They are both superb pistols.

I am a big fan of 9mm in the 1911 platform, both from a cost of practice ammo perspective as well as having a 9mm pistol that shares a manual of arms with my 45ACP 1911's.

^Very nice weapon. A couple questions:

1) Looks like a custom job, is it?

2) How much did it cost?

3) A mag holding 24 rounds?!?!?! Really?

4) How is RELIABILITY?

Well, Zak, read your original thread, a very cool "blaster" indeed.

That said $1700 custom jobs are not in my near future. Until I find a job better than the temp work I'll be doing for the next weeks (hopefully not months) no additional pistols are on the menu.

I've got to say, your 9mm 1911 looks like is just came back from a trip to space.

Good stuff.

I have the Springfield in 9mm but with the Novak fixed sites and I love it. I havent had any problems with it at all.

Besides Colt, Kimber, and SA, STI chambers a few single stacks in 9x19. The Trojan 5.0 is a great full-size 9x19 with sight, grip, and finish options. I only sold my fixed sight, hard chromed model to free funds for the STI Target Master in 9x19.

+1 for the STI... I shot one at the range a little while ago, and it functiond great, and accurate too.

Springfield

I have a Springfield loaded (P119134L) and have been very pleased with it. Shoots everything I've tried in it, and is the most accurate 9mm I own. :)

+2 for STI.

Great guns at good prices. They are semi-custom and have a lot of value in them IMHO.
