IMO

1. Glock 17L, (most accurate and balanced 9mm pistol I have ever shot)
2. Glock 17
3. Ruger P89
4. Beretta 92

Those are the only 9mm pistols I have shot, never got a chance to shoot my pap's high power but it fit my hand like a glove.

Of all time?

Luger
P38
BHP
Glock 17
Tie between B92 and SIG 226

Lots of good ones mentioned, but if you're talking about ones that actually see/saw service, I'll stick to my list.

Some other good ones include Walther P88, other Glock models (prob 19 being the most common these days), CZ, P7, P210, and potentially the new M&P (way too early to tell). But none of these have seen the service/duty that the originals have seen.

Best service 9-mm? I have had them all, including Sig 226 and Beretta 92fs, by my list includes this:
1. BHP
2. CZ-75B
3. CZ P-01
4. Glock 17
5. H&K P2000

I take service to be armed service, not at risk for jamming from stray powdered sugar and/or jelly filling. Only five 9mm pistols have really proven themselves in truly adverse conditions:

1) P-08 Luger
2) P-35
3) P-38
4) Beretta 92FS/M9
5) Sig P226/228

Everyone else builds proven garrison queens, cop guns, and inspirations for Counterstrike.;)

Browning Hi-Power
Glock 17 and Variants
CZ 75 and Variants
SIG 22X series
Beretta M9 and Variants

I don't think the others have seen the current service life of the above. The early Lugers, because of their popularity deserve a mention. However, I don't know of any modern service agency that still uses them.

If you included .380 ACP and 9mm Mak, it would open up a longer list, which would include the Walther PPK/S and the eastern bloc Maks.

Glock 17
Sig P226
Beretta 92F
H&K P7M8
Browning HiPower

G19 might knock out the H&K P7 for current production models.
