Well, being that the 9mm is the only ammo I can afford to shoot right now, and the only guns I brought with me to California, I've done a lot of thinking about the round lately. Although I've never needed to shoot anyone with the round, my father has, in combat, twice, and both of those people are not around to scream about how weak it is. So, that being said, I was wondering what the consensus (if there is one) as to what the top 9mm service weapons are. I own a Glock 17 that I’ve put 3,500 malfunction free rounds through and keep as my go to home defense gun. I also own a CZ-75B that I traded away a .45 for this year that I’ve put several hundred rounds through and I love this far.

So, what are the 5 best service 9mms out there, in your opinion. For me, a gun has to be 100% reliable, reasonably accurate, durable, and did I mention, 100% reliable. Here’s my list:

1. Glock 17. I’m sorry, I love this gun. I hit well with it, and it has never failed me. It’s loaded in the safe right now waiting to save my bacon if need be.

2. Browning Hi-Power. First handgun I ever shot. It saved my dad’s life in Nicaragua, and it never failed him.

3. CZ-75B. Like a “modern” hi-power, has not failed me in almost 1K rounds, and is tack driver accurate. Incredibly accurate in my barely capable hands (from a marksman standpoint, I shoot pretty decent for a civi I think)

4. Sig P226. Okay, bowing to the pressure a bit here. I’ve only shot one once, and I wasn’t very good with it, but it felt like a tank and I hear great things from the cops that I talked to who carry the .40 cal version.

5. I DON’T KNOW. Beretta, Smith and Wesson. I guess I need to shoot more nines to get a fifth.

Give me your criteria for a 9mm service weapon and your top five.

Thanks!

1 - Browning Hi Power
2 - Beretta 92fs
3 - Sig 226
4 - CZ-75
5 - Glock 17 or 19

Not sure about the order, but BHP is certainly #1 on my list, I own two and I'd pick up a 3rd in a heartbeat if the price was right.

Sadly all of the other guns on my list I have owned but sold off a few years ago to pay off some bills. Now I need to do some replacing, but it may take a while to fill the slots again. Next on my list is certainly a new CZ-75 I really miss that gun:(

1. UZI
2. MP 40
3. Swedish K
4. MP 5
5 P-35`HI power.

YMMV

You did ask for service weapons, not handguns, right?

If you ask about best 9mm Handguns/pistols.

1. luger
2. P-35
3. P-38
4. SIG
5. Glock

Now you answered your question with what you LIKED, apparently in handguns/pistols.

1. SIG
2. P-35
3. Glock
4. Beretta
5. CZ

Go figure.

Fred

1.) Ruger P89 ( you said service weapon - not CCW )
2.) Sig 226
3.) Glock 17
4.) CZ75
5.) Smith 6906

The Walther P38 (DA) should rank if we're talkin' innovation and history. Perhaps also should be the P08. These weapons did more in historical terms than any Glock or Sig. Of course, the High Power was innovative as it was the first of the "wonder nine" high cap guns. The Glock introduced polymer. IMHO any other choices are subjective.

1) HK P7
2) Hi-Power
3) Sig P228
3) S&W 5906
3) Beretta M9
4) Glock 19

CZ75 gets my honorable mention, poor trigger and internal finish keep it out of my top five.

1 - Browning Hi Power - Greatest of all time.
2 - CZ-75 - Almost as good.
3 - XD - new one on the block, but real nice.
3 - Sig 226 - Just because.
4 - Beretta 92fs - well, nah
5 - 1911 9MM - is that cheating.

1. BHP
2. CZ 75 (I like the P-01)
3. 1911 in 9mm (not cheating, its like peanut butter and chocolate finding each other)
4. Probably Sig (no real experience....just reputation)
5. Hmmm ...XD's are nice

I'll play. The guns on my list aren't necessarily historically "proven" or anything like that, but they are just my personally favorite service guns.

1. Sig 226/229
2. Springfield XD
3. HK USP or P2k
4. Glock 17/19
5. Beretta 92

in that order...:)
