What about JKD?

Please don't get my thread locked by arguing about any art, I'm not interested in arguing about what's better/worse, whatever. I just want to learn about some personal experiences that members here have had with JKD and JKD related training experiences such as training with Mr. Inosanto and/or his students, etc...

No pun intended. I respect everyone. My post wasnt towards you either carlojohn90, but rather the ones who look down on mma.

Hi Edmond,
I've studied the original JKD under Prof. Gary dill long years ago :) I liked it a lot and I also combined it with wingchun and Eskrima or Kali /knife fighting. It's very effective in street fighting and self defense..in my experienced..believe me;)
I used to remember we were only 10 members(half is in the military) and we wake up early with just shirt, jogging pants and rubber shoes and go to different places(alleys, parks, beach, etc.) to practice and apply different techniques. My instructor said it helps you on your adaptation to different environment and also use it as a weapon. I also attended ted wong and Paul vunaks seminars..very informative warriors.
Anyway, Those were the days..but I still practice my 21 :)
Oh well, Like what everybody's telling ..find the right instructor .
GoodLuck and Take care

Hybridgenius,

Matt Thornton at Straight Blast teaches MMA. I am not sure where your hostility comes from. Obviously you don't know much about Judo, Karate and other classes where the students practice without resistance and so on.

Fighting is not a "sport" or a "challenge". It is a life and death struggle and if you are indeed open to any challenge at all, you need to go and read Sun Tzu. War is very serious business and should not be undertaken "lightly".

OP asked for info on JKD.

I'm enjoying reading the experiences of others on this thread. This discussion of mma and the defensiveness involved isn't part of this topic. This thread is about JKD. OP has specific requests.

If you'd like to argue the merits of mma, start a thread on that. You'll have 30 people to debate in less time that it takes to bake a pizza.

I've run into JKD guys at TaiChi and QiGong seminars from time to time. I liked their mindset. They're much more pragmatic than other Chinese art practitioners in that they seemed (as a group) to be very focused on what will work and what does work for them as individuals. None had an identical fighting personality. Though, I suppose no one does.
I am pretty impressed by them as individuals and as a group.
