I've read lots of complaints about the factory stock that came on my Savage 10FP .308. I have been on savageshooters and some other sites and have looked at the Bell & Carlson, Choate, McMillian and others.

What does everyone have on their Savage? The McMillian is BUCKS! but is it worth it? Any close alternatives? Thanks all, BBED

I've only owned the Bell & Carlson Duramaxx and the McMillan A-5 for the Savage. The Duramaxx is a decent stock, but it can't even come close to a McMillan. Is it worth it? Yes, I would say it is. You pay for top quality product.

Granted, a middle of the line stock might be one of the stocks by Sharp Shooter Supply. While I have not handled one of these stocks before, many Savage owners feel that the SSS stocks are a fine product.

I've got a B&C Duramaxx on mine, and it's far superior to the factory stock, far inferior to anything made by McMillan. It still works pretty well, though.

Find the web site for Sharp Shooter Supply. The make a very nice tactical stock for the Savage. They are also considered to be the experts and best source for Savage accessories and after market stuff.

10 FP Good gun!

Be advised that although the McMillan is a superior product, it weighs a metric ton! Please to note that the Model 10 so equipped from the Savage has a shorter barrel length to reduce the immense weight of the total rifle. Stocking a 10FP will net you a longer barrel than otherwise availible thus increasing your Tacticool factor by 10%!!!

I intend to purchase a 10FP as soon as funds are availible.

***OK, let me put my flame resisitant suit on!*** Ok, now that that's done - how about wood? Actually, wood laminate. Has many of the good properties of synthetics but doesn't look like you're a mall ninja wannabe. I've put Boyd's Thumbhole Varminter on 2 of my Savages and have been VERY happy. I always get looks and thumbs ups from people. Even the "non-shooters" seem to like it. Something to consider anyway. They have it in pepper and nutmeg. I went with Pepper laminate and it looks right on a DM rifle set. ***Suit off***

HTH,
Mike

I second the vote for a stock fromSharpShooter Supply. They only make stocks for the Savage, so that's one reason they're not mentioned frequently, but their stocks are EXCELLENT quality, and yes I would purchase one over a McMillian for a Savage.

i just put a choate ultimate varmint sotck on my model 10 only because i can't afford a mcmillan right now. i have yet to shoot it with the new stock on, but i assume that it will shoot better than with the factory stock on it.

onslaught- why do you have the bipod on the barrel?

m39fan- boyds has a ton more color combos than those two...

according to Savage, the Mcmillan stocked 10FP has a 26" barrel, the longest they offer.;)

I've got Duramaxxs on both my 10FPs.

I've got one in the tupperware, one in a DuraMaxx, and one in a SSS varmint/tactical.

The value of each seems to be directly proportional to its cost. ($10, $100, and $250) I don't even mind the tupperware right now as it is on a sporter rifle anyway. I did not like it on the heavy barrelled rifles though.

I guess the McM is probably worth the $400 if you've got it.

As a sort-of owner of a Savage 10FLP I definitely recommend the Sharp Shooter Supply Varmint/Tactical stock. I found the factory one to be less than satisfactory.
