What am I missing with the Wilson Combat Shotguns?

I just don't see the value here, am I missing something? $735 is the lowest priced 870 they sell, and it is pretty much a parkerized 870 express with nice sights.

I just bought a Police Magnum with ghost rings and added everything the Border Patrol has plus a sidesaddle, and I built it for $560 including tax and all. The Wilson would have ran almost $800 after tax.

I dont want to bash Wilson, I just dont see what the deal is with the price? Am I missing something??????

That $300 is for the LABEL. Just like in anything else. A Sony or Dell computer is priced about $300 more than computers with identical specs but are built at home or by a small company. A tricked Honda might outrun a Ferrari, but the Ferrari will still be $80,00+ more.

well, it's not exactly the same.

wilson usually does an action/trigger job as well, and most of them have surefire lights installed.

Opie, the value comes from the lack of hassle. I tell them what I want, they make it. It works, I do not use my time running here or there, beating on the weapon, or waiting for UPS, I move on.

Whether your per hour justifies that cost, depends on your surrounding circumstances. Free market in action--yeah, capitalism.

Wilson's told me they do NOT do action jobs/trigger jobs on the shotguns.

By the way, are you sure they start as "Express" models???

Yep

They are Express guns, I have handled 3 and all of them said Express Magnum. I was also told Wilson did not do trigger jobs on them.

The cheapest Wilson with a Surefire is $959!

I came to the same conclusion after spending a ton-o-time perusing the TFL boards. The only remotely scary mod that they do is the sites.
They do not even include a forcing cone in their "mods".
I have an 870 here that I have less than 250 bucks into that has all their "mods" on it except the ghost rings.
Used 870 - 155.00
Used Sidesaddle - 10.00
Used stocks (wood ones that I refinished) - 10.00
Used mag extension & spring - 15.00
Steel follower - 11.95 (new from Brownells)
I did put a spare rifle-sited barrel on it that has the forcing cone lengthened but I could have just as easily had the barrel that came with the gun modified for 40.00.
It is amazing what they get for their 870's. Truly.

A stock 870 right out of the box is an awesome close range tool. Most of what Wilson-ST does is worthy, but little cannot be done by an owner or good local smith.

Here's the budget approach....

Buy a used, short barrelled 870. A smoothbore 20" barrel with rifle sights is nigh ideal. So's a 21" turkey barrel.

Make sure it has a stock that fits you and a trigger that breaks under 4 lbs.

Stick some sling studs on it.

Now go shoot the thing until it feels like a body part and most of what you shoot at is destroyed or "Reduced to possession".

Then, you're in a better position to tell what mods and addons will aid your perfromance and what will just suck money from you.
