We have very recently seen a few Russian guns put on the ban list along with a bunch from China and likely a few other places I'm not aware of. So what really cool weapons are we missing out on in the US that our counterparts in other countries get to have?

As always when I start a thread I go first. Norinco makes some neat stuff, specifically they make a Winchester clone riot gun I would love to have. It was imported briefly but then the ban stopped it before I could bring one home. This was when I was trying to get into the cowboy game too so my cheap entry was squashed.

So what other great guns do we miss out on due to various political measures?

USAS-15 shotgun......

A large east coast firm Atlantic Firearms Co posted a notice saying the USAS-15 12ga shotguns are now delayed/no longer available due to the Russia ban.
I thought the model was from South Korea, . I know Kel-Tec markets a shotgun a lot like the USAS-15 12ga but it's not the same firm or design.

The Norinco M-14 clone, for one.
We will be missing out on all future Saiga and Vepr rifles and shotguns.

Polish, Romanian, Yugo, etc. will still be imported, but I suspect the price point on all AKs is going to increase dramatically. Not going to be worth it with ARs available for under $600 again.

We're missing out on the chance to support oppressive governments with records for atrocious human rights violations, among other things ;)

^^^LOL!!!^^^
If I'm not mistaken I believe Franchi was the maker of the SPAS-12, banned for import due to "non-sporting purpose". And to my knowledge the Garands, Carbines, etc. have yet to make it here from S.K. due to his Royal Majesty's Executive Import Ban.

Before this turns into an America bash, consider that the people in those countries do everything they can to move here - where they can buy, own, and shoot firearms. Sadly, the countries with the worst human rights violations start with their #1 requirement, a disarmed population.

As for weapons, the Chinese negotiated away their gun imports to send conexes of merchandise to fill big box stores. That was an easy decision to make when the Clinton Administration was doing things like shutting down the CMP, and destroying most of the 1911's and M14's so they couldn't be sold as surplus.

We've had "gun bans" for decades, the bigger examples are in small auto pistols that were regulated out of importation. Most of those came from Europe and included some famous models. It prompted the makers to eventually build a factory in America to circumvent the ban. Walther PPK, anyone?

For those of us who've been shooting awhile, the entire BATF ruling on whether a gun is built for "sporting" purposes is actually an old conversation. We've been stymied with dozens of firearms that were initially allowed, then banned as the gun grabbers pushed for a restriction, and the BATF would comply in any way they could. The Franchi SPAS shotgun was one more infamous example.

How long has this been going on? Since before we were a nation. In 1774 the British passed an import ban on firearms and powder - because Parliament well understood that their new laws to coerce their subjects to pay taxes would likely result in armed resistance, and they determined to cut off supplies ahead of that.

Totally not intending this to be a political bash by any means. Simply put, what hardware are we missing due to the political decisions made for varying reasons. Seems as though it's mainly AK variants but surely there's some really cool stuff we can't get for some silly reason. Let's avoid the silly reason and talk about the cool stuff.

Uts-15.....

For what it's worth; the correct name for the 15 round shotgun is the UTS-15 not the USAS-15.
It seems a bit bulky for most uses but the add on white light & red laser + the high firepower could be good for spec ops or defense.

The USAS-12 is a South Korean design. It is/was made in full-auto and semi-auto versions, fed by a 10rnd detachable box magazine or 20rnd drum. It's not the same as the UTAS-15 pump action. The USAS-12 would probably highly competitive with Saiga 12 shotguns if they were both allowed to be imported.

I'd like a Neostead 2000 shotgun. It's a South African design that I believe is effected by legislation here.

I'd like one of the Norinco SKS rifles that accepts AK magazine, but I guess I could settle for an AK.

Unadulterated AK's aren't allowed either. They'd be dirt cheap.

The Glock 25(?) .380 isn't allowed for import.

922r compliance really kills the import of a lot of good, yet cheap, firearms.

I thought the UTAS 15 was Turkish?
I emailed them some time ago and was told they don't sell them in the UK (this was last year).
The Turkish BR-99 however is sold in the UK and in the US.

Polytech M-14s are sold in Canada, and pretty cheap from what I understand. Banned from import here, thanks to some statist or another. I think it might be the slickster, but I'm not sure.

It is. But the USAS-12 is South Korean. Well, its built by a South Korean company, it was actually designed here but no one here wanted to manufacture it. It was based on the Atchisson Assault Shotgun (which was later refined into the AA-12 by a company that bought the patents).

Maybe with no more Russian firearms, the Swedes will fill the niche and ship a boatload of 6.5 x 55 Mausers over here! I'd be up for that if they still have a bunch.

Does the new Russian ban actaully ban Saigas? I thought the ban was on doing business with certain individuals and corporations, and as such, intermediaries could be used. That would drive up costs of course, but it wouldn't stop the import after the supply chain was adjusted. Please clarify.

My two biggest gripes are we can't import Dragunov's (frigging awesome rifles if you have ever shot them, I lust after one of my unlce's Dragunov's from time to time), and the Norinco M14s (there were some lemons naturally but they tended to be good).

From there it's then Norinco 1911s (forge cut frames and slides), and cheap Chinese ammo.

There is no ban on importation of Norinco or any other Chinese shotgun. You can still buy the Chinese copy of the Winchester 1897 pump, the lever action, and many coach guns. You can also buy the Chinese Catamount which is a copy of the Saiga shotgun. The H&R Pardner pump is made in China and there is also a Chinese copy of the Ithaca 37.

Russian ak variants is all I would think. Yugoslavia, Romania and a few others do not belong to them yet.
seriously though my bet would be ammunition.

Norinco products. AMMO FOR CHEAP! "Non-Sporting" Rifles and pistols without idiotic safety features.
norinco is Chinese. I think

sorry thought the op was about the recent Russian sanctions against arms dealers. my bad.
