What are your OTHER expensive hobbies besides guns?

If the wife sees this thread, I'm a dead man.

Of course I love firearms, my penchant for WWII rare manufacture pieces has not helped our budget.

I am also one of those weirdo numismatists. That's right, I LERV me some coins. I have special interests in Trimes, seated liberty, and especially Arrows+rays pieces. My real pet love, and hideous expense however, is in Carson City Morgans.

I am also a book whore, with a special penchant for american authors, the grittier the better. I own many rare / first / signed editions from Faulkner, Steinbeck, Twain, Bukowski, etc. What's amazing is how little many of these pieces cost a mere 10-15 years ago. They're some of my best investments, sadly they'll never be realized because they are patently not for sale, much to the chagrin of SWMBO.

I also collect Zippo lighters, mid century american razors, and of all the odd things.... dictionaries. Dictionaries are not too expensive, but from different eras they paint an amazing picture of the living english language, and it's evolution.

Last but hardly least, there is golf. Clubs are expensive, greens are expensive.... good lessons are REALLY expensive... all to spoil a perfectly fine walk with a little white ball. (the lessons are paying off btw, yesterday I drove 290+ yards, which is a lifetime record for me, altho I actually overdrove the green on that hole).

I think the lesson here is, don't worry about finding things to spend money on, they present themselves quite readily lol.

so the consisise is (so far)
a few oddballs with there pens,
lots of moterheads
several wheelbutts (long storie short this is how my dogs refear to people on bicycles)
a couple people with sticks on their feet
some livestock (mostly minature humans and canine children, with some hay burners thrown in)
and techie nutts..... did i miss anyone?
:D

(for the record, i'm makeing fun of everyone, including myself)

I just bought a 2008 WRX, not doing much to it yet as it had 6 miles on the clock... but give me a couple months and I'll be tinkerin

I'm a PC gamer, that's not terribly expensive but I do spend a lot on hardware

I used to be a big outdoorsman, kayaking/rafting, backpacking, climbing, snorkling but after I enlisted these funds moved into my shooting hobby. More practice/fun there makes me better able to survive deployment so it's a win win.

Hockey. I'm a goalie and my equipment is up there in price. It's worth every penny, though, when a puck hits you in the nuts.

Right now medical school (and associated tuition) has my consumed life, so that's the #1 "hobby". Though I was excited the other day to finally get the medical gear I spent nearly $900 on.....

Also into computers and technology in general...yes, I'm a gadget guy. So the usual homebuilt computer, laptop, toys for those, networking devices, built computer for car w/ touchscreen for nav and music, etc...

Am also a licensed amateur radio operator, haven't done much with it in the past few years 'cause of school, but some of the latest/greatest HF radio rigs can get expensive fast.

Isn't this thread entirely off topic, just by its nature

I think that, like the demographics thread we had several weeks back, it is very illustrative of some of the very best traits shared by gun hobbyists.

We get lots of people through here who think we're all a bunch of dirty, illiterate cretins.

It is very pleasant to see that we're people who enjoy all sorts of diverse hobbies requiring widely varying knowledge and skills, from rebuilding cars to collecting dictionaries.

I don't have other expensive hobbies. I can't AFFORD more than this.

I do hike and backpack- HOW DO THE REST OF YOU THINK THESE ARE EXPENSIVE? It requires a one time large investment and then very small "upkeep" investments over time.

This gets pretty expensive.

The camera I took this with wasn't cheap either.

Then there's this. This is the "before" pic. The "after" costs much much more. caddy.gif

Besides guns...
Offroading my Jeep, fishing, boating, riding my motorcycle.

I used to fly a lot more but it's got so expensive I haven't flown in a while....

My wife says I have way too many hobbies....

Old cars and pickups. Here's one of them, a 1975 Corvette that I've modified with a GM crate engine and a 700R4 overdrive.

Guns cost nothing compared to restoring old vehicles.

Bullockcm;

Whachoo got there? Looks like an RD of later vintage. But what's the rectangular hunk of something underneath the frame? My first road racer was an RD400D. DG pipes, DG heads, K-mart coil conversion, "thingies" done with reeds and cages. Etc, etc, lord what a fun and addictive little money pit that was!

But then I decided to get cereal about it. RD's just didn't have enough wheaties ya know? I fell in with Bad Company & bumped it up to the 900F.
Did you know one of the larger motorcycle catalog guys has a class 3 license? It was ugly the way they seduced me - and I let 'em. Giggle, grin, 18 tooth countershaft sprocket & still pull the front end anytime below 110 mph. Geared out at 162 & able to pull it too.

900F

Well, my pants say eating is my next most expensive hobby.:D I guess bicycles with 5 complete bicycles, 1 bicycle frame and a bunch of parts comes in third. Photography used to be up there and may be again pretty soon.

My beautiful wife lets me keep our 1999 FLHT 1550cc even though I don't ride very much any more. Ouside of that, I now have two hundred acres of forest to care for and 100 acres of pasture to tend, and we best be figuring it out!!

Well aside from guns there is Cycling. I now have 8 bikes in the garage and hope to add more.Getting back into backpacking and camping and that gets expensive as well!
