What are your ReloadingGoals for 2019?

Lots of folks have mentioned moving or building new houses. I'm in that boat, too. I'm moving from a subdivision to a parcel where I'll have clay, pistol, and rifle ranges on my own land. I think it'll be worth it.

In 2019, I've got lots of plumbing and electrical work to do, and then my reloading bench to set up again. Also to help Mrs Luz with her shop setup. And then a year's worth of deferred unloading to catch up on.

Life is good.

Boy do I envy you being able to shoot on your own property. Congratulations and good luck getting the work done.

2018 has been a good year. I have loaded and shot just over 4000 rounds of 9mm, and a couple hundred 45 Colt. Misc numbers of Rifle rounds.

For 2019 I'd like a couple new loads and powders for 9mm. I'd like to work on rifle loads more. Experiment with heavier .223 loads, and a different hunting load for my .243. I also like the idea of buying powder and primers whenever I can do so. If I can do the above and keep he numbers up or above this past year it'll be a great 2019 !

Time and weather to shoot, shoot, shoot so I can reload, reload, reload!
Getting my 550 spitting out 44 mag! Then on to 223, 30 carbine, and more!

First off, DRAINSMITH, I pray 2019 shows you a better year.

It has been 2 yrs. since we moved and 6 mos. since we closed on the old house.
For 2018, I maybe reloaded 300 rds., mostly to try out in new guns. And only half of those got shot. But I did acquire a fair amount of components though.
2019, I'm hoping to build and organize some cabinets and shelving. Get all the reloading equipment in it's own place.
I recently joined another gun range. There, I'll be able to use the chrony that I haven't used in a few years. Got some loads that I need to see if there is room for tweaking.
Maybe too, 2019 will be the year I get our son to start reloading.

@DRAINSMITH , I hope 2019 is a good year for you.

My goals are:
  • Keep my 100% safety record
  • Try and improve on my precision loads (not that easy, but always trying)
  • Add another cartridge to my reloading stable (will need a new gun)
Pretty much what I have planned.

I've been using 223 to learn bottleneck rifle with. I'm trying all the tricks, one at a time, to see what works. So far this has included annealing and neck-turning. I personally think 223 is good to learn on, as the brass is readily available (pretty much free) and the bullets are relatively cheap. I think in 2019 I will acquire a decent 6.5C rifle and apply everything I have learned. Or maybe 224V, or maybe both. And I also plan to start shooting past 500 yards.

One more thing to add. To find my reload notebook that I haven't seen since the move. I sure hope I didn't toss it, I had a lot of good loads and chrony readings logged in there.

Keep using my stocked components, been hitting some sweet deals on garage sales the last few years and have enough components on hand to feed me for years, just have to get them into a useable state.

I also think I'm ready to buy a Dillon SL900 for shotshell. At this point, I can't load them fast enough out of my Hornady 366's to even put a dent in my stocks. Hoping a Dillon will double my output.

And finally getting around to loading my .458 win mag and 7mm rem mag which I bought not too long ago. Snagged some good sale deals this last month for both :)

First is to try to improve consistency so my reloads work each time. in the last run of 1K 380 I have had a small number that the primers have not worked. It may be seating to deep, it is also possible that handling of the primers contaminated them.

I also plan to get a Ruger 77/44 (a bolt action rifle). At that point I will also get what I need to add 44 mag to my reloading kit.

Ruger 77/44 is on my list. Not long ago, I missed a good deal on a 99/44, I wish I had snapped it up! Basically a 10/22 but in 44 mag.

I'm having a lot of fun with my 44 mag Rossi lever action. 44 mag is a fun caliber to load.

I put together my handloading bench in fall of 2015. It is laid out well and is quite robust. The one shortcoming is that I wish the bench height was about 5" higher. I have been promising myself that I would make new legs for it for the last 2 years.

The problem is my bench works and I need a lot of ammo so it keeps getting put off. This spring I'm going to do it but will need a stock of ammo to carry me through the season while the bench is down. So my one and only reloading goal is to raise the height of my bench.

Continue enjoying reloading education of my grandkids and a couple of their friends and dads. I'm also responsible for producing plinking fodder for my 3 sons with the caveat they pay for all the components. :)

.....my Hornady 366's to even put a dent in my stocks. Hoping a Dillon will double my output. .....

Won't happen...probably triple it though. I went from a 366 to a 900...it can spit out close to 1k per hr with everything right and ready. Only holds a pound of powder, 100 or so primers and 200 or so hulls. You need everything close by to get the high numbers or "fix" the issues mentioned.

My 2019 "issues"...

I have…

(3k) 9mm bullets that need loaded
(5k) 230gr 45 that need loaded
(5k) 155gr 40 that need loaded
(7k) 125gr 357Sig that need loaded
(10k) 12ga, (15k) 28ga and (8k) 410hulls that need loaded
Need a ton of shot
Need 32# shotgun powder

I have all the other components and since its winter here my shooting has slowed down…normally reload everything I have once or twice a year over the course of a couple weekends. I never understood the guys that load every couple weeks or once a month…I do it in one setting until I run out of components, I’d rather shoot than load.

My Reloading '19 goal goes hand n hand with my Rifle '19 goal... get an Uberti 1885 High Wall in .45-70 and find a good long distance load for it. Further, I'm working on my long-time quest to find a suitable powder combo for the 9mm, and for 200grn bullets in the .45ACP.

Odds n Ends...

Get rid of the weirdo powders on the bench... TiteGroup, probably IMR4198 and AA5744, RedDot (which I just did... finally...) and maybe work my way through my IMR4895. I used to use IMR4895 for everything .30 cal, but as I refined my loads for each gun, my powder selection split... to IMR4064 and IMR3031... leaving IMR4895 in the dust, except for the M1 Garand. I have about 15# of it, still, but 500 rounds of .30-06 will knock that down considerably, and I continue to use it on my M80-equivalent 7.62mm load for the M1a until it's gone.

Resize and trim down about 5K 5.56mm, 2K 7.62mm, and about 200 .348WCF... and then load it all up!

1) Work up some bunny fart loads for an SAA in 45 Colt.
2) Use up more of my powder

Shoot more, reload more. Medical setbacks this past year kept the wife and I from shooting as much as we'd like.

After this 5XDSkCa.jpg took out most of my brass, bullets and primers, not to mention my RCBS 1500 and most of my other tools, I'm in replacement mode and waiting on them to finish the garage.
Oh, and it did this VVTlpAZ.jpg

and this
RNtinoo.jpg

And this

to my firearms.

Guns are cleaned up and I luckily had two inside the house that escaped (along with their ammo) so I can still do this

and this GShZfrk.jpg

So, it's not all bad.

Merry Christmas to everyone and may your 2019 be the best one yet!
