What black rifle?

Ok here is what I have:

bwk92 sporter (accurized ak in 223 rem.)
Olympic arms ml-2 (very very very very accurate)
cz 221 fireball
100 atr 30-06
model 700 22-250
mossberg 464

Here are my trade options:

6.5 grendel upper
cancel the 6.8 ammo sucks
7.62x39 upper
SIG 556

Most of what I have will be traded for any of the above. The two I would prefer to keep are the bwk and the oly. But to get to the point which would be the best rifle to trade for in your opinions? The sig is exquisite but is it worth losing most of my arsenal?

What would you do with the new firearm? That has a lot of bearing on choices.

Why do you want to trade anything? That has bearing as well.

Me? I have everything AR-based now. I used to have everything AK-based.

For me, I would ideally have:

AR-15 carbine in 5.56
AR-10 (or for me DPMS LR-308) in .308
AR-15 in 6.8 SPC perhaps (or just an upper)


That covers basically everything I need a centerfire rifle to do. I still need to grab a 6.8 upper, and I am considering building another LR-308 with a shorter barrel than my 24" one-- maybe an 18".

So really, I dunno for you. It depends on your desired results and the needs that you have. For me, I have knock-abouts that usually have to have some hunting ability behind them. My LR is my deer rifle.

i voted for the 'x39 because of lower ammo cost, and higher availbility. it should be very reliable, somewhat accurate, and very much good enough for deer.

That's been disproven time and time again. People have only used steel cased ammo with no ill effects that wouldn't be present had they been using brass.

i use steel in my .223 AR, and NO PROBLEMS whatsoever. maybe a bad one here and there, but in general.... if you get soooo worried, just get a magpul MIAD grip and store a extre bolt assembly in it.

S&W makes a 5.45 upper, really good, cheap ammo, actually it also has better feeding in the AR than the 'x39 does. problem is, if 'bama gets elected, he might ban all imported ammo, meaning NO 5.45 ammo. some companies here make 'x39 ammo.

sig 556=overrated, IMO. just get a GP AR 15 like a POF and you can still use other caliber uppers

SIG 556. AR uppers in different calibers are always tempting, but if you could get the 556 and still hold onto your Oly I'd do that and get a unique rifle.

the reason i think the sig is overrated is that it can't do anything a GP AR can't, it costs more, and can't change calibers. and changing to .22lr for cheap pratice is always nice.

Mini 14 accuracy is quite limited I would rather own a kel tex su 16 than that I've had too many jams and sparse groups from those. As for the sig if i get it the oly goes the bwk stays, I shot my first deer with that when I was 7

For those of you who might vote for the 6.8 I already ruled it out. It is now down to the sig, the grendel, and the 7.62x39

If foreign ammo is banned, you'll have a much harder time feeding 7.672 X 39. On the other hand, of the calibers you mention, the 6.8SPC is enjoying the most backing from manufacturers.

snakeman, why don't you just use your .30-06 100 ATR? Seems like it would do the job you describe, better than any .223 etc.

One can only wonder what "foreign" really means. .375 H&H? .308 Norma? .303 British? 7x57 Mauser? 9mm Parabellum? 6.5 x 55 Swedish? The mind boggles.

there are domestic makers of 'x39, and it is still cheaper than 6.8 SPC. parts for the AR are everywhere, whereas the sig is very hard to find parts in my (very limited) experiance.

I would be just fine using the 06 but, I like semiautos and would like to have a powerful and/or highly reliable one that is accurate before we are in a clintonesque rut again.
