What bullet would you stock up on for 7mm-08?

I,ve used the Hornady 139 softpoints and Rem 150 Core lock. Both are very accurate. Midway has a sale on blemished bullets and the 139 and 154 gr are cheap so I thought I would just put one weight away. They look like Hornady. Looking at the ballistic tables on both the trajectory is very close at 300yds. The velocity/energy is higher with the 139. But reading all my life the slightly heavier and longer bullets in the 7mm and 6.5mm are better. I kind of always think the 7mm-08 is like a modern 7mm Mauser and the 154 grn was the best all around choice. So thats why I asked.

140s are magic in the 7mms they hit well above there weight, I can't trust the midway blems any more last few batches were almost unusable. The speer I believe is a better bullet and are cheaper to.

Really? I haven't bought any recently but years ago they were ok. I miss the bulk Rem and Win overstock they had way back. Now I have to look again. Thanks.

What was the problem? Soft points extruded or bad jackets....?

I run 140s in my 7-08s for range and hunting purposes. Nosler BTs at the range and SGKs for hunting. Both are accurate with my loads. SGKs in 7mm sure are hard to find these days...

Well I rolled the dice and ordered 4 boxes of the 139grn SP (Hornadys),19.99 for 100. Hopefully they are good. I'm not looking for target ammo. My 788 puts 5 in a quarter at 100yds with a basic load. If they do that I'm good. I'll report on their condition. Love those 788s. I also have a .223 w/24" barrel. Thats shoots 5 in a dime if I squint and hold my mouth right. Thanks for the replies.

140gr Sierra GameKings.
I agree with JDeere and CptnAwesome but the Sierra 140 grain GameKing is hard to find right now. What would I do if I couldn't find the Sierra GameKing? Well, since you are using a push feed action and if your rifle damages bullet tips I would suggest that you buy the 140 grain Nosler AccuBond. Teflon tips are made for push feed actions. They work good in one of my rifles and I bought some this week from Precision Reloading at $55 for a box of 50 bullets. I suggest that you buy one box and try them before you buy several boxes because some rifles don't like some bullets. My first choice as a serious hunter is the Nosler 140 grain Partition because of their performance on game although it is hard to get them to shoot less than MOA. My second choice for hunting is the 140 grain Nosler AccuBond and they will shoot less then MOA in some rifles. I have shot a 788 before and it was one accurate rifle.

https://www.grafs.com/retail/catalog/product/productId/17207 If you think boat tails are sexy, get the BT version. If you want lower recoil, get the 130 GR version. All are presently in stock.

You've gotten some interesting responses, but having read and paid attention to your OP, this is the bullet I would get. They tend to be accurate across a broad range of rifles and loads. They may not be the best possible in any given combination, but I've found it hard to make them shoot poorly. If a Speer Hot core won't group decently, something is wrong. They're a hammer on whitetails also if you do go that route in the future. They're cheap, butt simple and they work!

i'm a dedicated muzzleloader hunter who punches holes in targets and varmints with centerfire rifles.

My favorite bullet for the 7mm-08 is the 139 grain Hornady Interlock BTSP. My model 700 Remington in that caliber has a 22 inch barrel. The same bullet is fired from the long range coyote killer, a 7mm Weatherby magnum with 26 inch barrel.

I’ve always used 120 BT‘s in my 7-08. It was the first load I tried and it was sub-MOA quick. Works well on the small deer in our area. I got a 280 AI last year and tried some of the Speer bullets mentioned above. I’m very impressed and will try the on additional rifles.

Last batch of Blem 150’s I got from MidwayUSA shot three through the same hole from my Remington Model 7 over 45gr of IMR4350. Dropped an 8pt buck DRT at 147yds. I ordered another 500of them immediately!
I’m still shooting some 139gr BTSpt Hornady’s I bought 20yrs ago. My Remington M700 likes them better than the 150’s.
For smaller deer, the Speer 130gr BTSpt is super.
The upper right shot was after I adjusted the scope before range was called cold. I thought two of the shots had gone low off the paper…
That’s the exit wound on that deer. With similar shot placement I’ve had Nosler 150B.T.’s fail to exit.
