okay guys so it looks like work is gonna have me in cali for a minute, I know my cc permit is not valid here but I'd still like to have a handgun with me for when I'm in my room at least.

I've looked through their "roster" and I'm very limited on what I have that is on there.

My question is, is the roster for sale and transfer only or is it also for possession?

Would I have to bring a gun that's on their current roster or could I bring any gun that's not above the 10 rnd mag capacity limit as long as I don't sale or transfer?

I've read the transporting laws and have a lockable case and all that non sense that this ridiculous state requires.

Okay, here is what I am aware of...

LAST I HEARD, 10 rounds or less, you should be good, for normal pistols (don't know about AR pistols or Mauser broomhandles, etc). I also want to know for sure though...

The Roster only applies to sales and transfer...not possession. Bring whatever you'd like with just a couple of exceptions:
1. You may not bring a magazine capable of holding more than 10 rounds.
2. You may not bring a pistol with a threaded barrel or a foregrip

3. Just to avoid confusion, because it gets much more complicated, don't bring an AR pistol

I am in Sacramento for a month! From Orlando. Left my guns at home. A Benchmade lock-blade folder.
City-stick walking stick. Job one, Babysitting. My Daughter in Law is petrified of guns!
She came home from work last night, a senior social worker.
Tells us she was in a store, on the mall, a homeless Lady was agitated in the store, so she helped her out of the store. Took a few minutes to calm her down, outside with them, a strange looking man, with a bike, acting strange (welcome to Sacramento!)
The sound of multiple sirens rends the air! Three Police Cars came rapidly to them, three Officers, standing, pointing pistols! "Get on the ground" The Daughter in Law, decided she was not the person being shouted at! So she put her arm around the Lady and walked her away. She was right, they rushed up, and arrested the Gent with the Bike.
She said she was going to lie down or cower against the wall? I explained what bullets do, after contacting the floor, or wall! Knowing the exact spot... I said she should have gone back into the store, to the back wall!
Away from windows. Her way worked, anyway, good stuff!

Usual armament for CA visits is a .38 snub (i/j/k) with about 25 rds. Can't carry, but nice to have along for the ride and keep loaded at night in hotel/motel. No hassle flying out of LAX or Burbank with the weapon- they see ALOT of them every day.

I went through this a year or so ago. Flew into NV for a shooting class. Then drove to CA for a few days for a work conference, then flew home out of LAX.

I brought a 1911 that is not on the CA list, but as noted that is only for sales/transfers, not possession. Single-stack mags were obviously less than 10-rounds.

I was initially worried about flying out of a CA airport, but found it no different than flying with guns through any other airport.

My choice would be my Taurus M-85 snubbie with a 25 round box of premium ammunition. The replacement cost of the Taurus is less of a bitter pill to swallow if it ends up being confiscated somehow.

A close 2nd choice (might be a toss-up) would be my Taurus M-941 22 Magnum revolver. Not only does it hold 8 rounds but two 50 round boxes of ammo take up less space than two 25 round boxes of 38 Special.

And do not bring a Taurus Judge or S&W Governor. They are classified as short barreled shotguns.
