I just bought one today. Primarily have always been a 1911 or Ruger P series shooter, what can I expect with the XD? If you own one, are they as good as the buzz is about them?

I love mine . I haven't had any problems with it. Its more accurate then I expected. Ive noticed it has a big appetite.

I've got a 5" tactical model and I absolutely love it (god help me....even more than Glock). Never had a problem and it's more accurate than I am capable of.
The really don't need to be cleaned that much but if you do, it only takes 10 seconds to disassemble so clean up is easy!

It does have a voracious appetite for ammo though so be prepared!!!

I have had mine for about a month now and it is so sweeet........it is the most accurate shooter I have.

I have a S&W Model 910/9mm, a Sig 10mm and a Bersa 380 also. But, by far my favorite is the Springfield XD45 4".

Congrats you will love it I am sure.

Mine is great. I prefer the 1911 to it, but it is a very nice pistol. It is dependable, accurate, and easy to shoot well. I recommend XD's to new shooters since they are so simple to operate and easy to shoot well.

I like the white dot sights as they are easy for my old eyes to aim with.

No complaints.

I'm overjoyed with my XD-45 4" Service Pistol. It's a wonderful pistol. The Gear that comes with it, however, is awful.

In case you didn't read the owners manual thoroughly, the sights are regulated for a 6-o'clock hold. So if you aim for the center of a bullseye it will hit a bit high.

Lighter/faster bullets will not have as noticeable a difference as 230-grain standard velocity rounds.

A superbly accurate pistol, and the trigger only improves with shooting.

One that to be aware of with XD's is that the take-down lever rotates up and it has a little metal stud on the inside that sticks out towards the slide. Sooner or later that stud is going to scratch the h**l out of your slide when you field strip the gun. I've always been careful when cleaning to avoid that problem, but I still managed to put a big Darlington stripe down the side of my XD40 slide last weekend.

I'm not sure why that stud is there. I don't see where it really does anything useful. I'm thinking about using my Dremel tool to grind it off both my XD's.

:(

Another 1911 guy here. I waited for the XD45 to come out and bout a slightly used one for $420. Didn't even have any wear marks on it. So far I have fired 600 rounds of WWB through it without any issues.

I Likey!

The stud you are talking about more than likely holds the take-down lever in position, unless intentionally moved with force. If you were to remove that stud I would imagine it would beable to move freely at all times. I don't own a XD but I know what studs on levers do. :D

It looks like the stud is there to keep the take-down lever from rotating too far when it's in the down position, so I suppose it is needed. But it sure will put a hurtin' on the side of the slide if you're not careful. When I was taking the slide off my hand brushed the takedown lever and pushed it down until the stud came into contact with the slide, then it got hung up in the rear slide serrations. I had to ease the slide back and slowly rotate the lever back up to get it out of the serrations.

Take a look at an XD sometime and you'll see exactly what I'm talking about. If you accidently push the lever down while taking the slide off, it causes all kinds of fits because the lower third of the slide is wider than the upper 2/3's and the stud will come into contact with the lower part.

But I do love my XD's. Almost as much as I love my CZ's!

It is the most boring gun to shoot. Goes bang everytime, hits where you point, just plain boring. :neener: I love my XD45 it's a great pistol. Shoots very nice and eats just about everything you throw at it. Only real issue that takes getting used to is the trigger pre-travel. Once you get used to it, it's not bad at all. You could send it off and get a trigger job if you so desire, but I'd shoot 500-1000rds before deciding to do that.
