Well I bought a new Colt this weekend, a M1991A1. I don't know much about it, other than it's a fine handling weapon. So THR, what can you tell me about it?

Excuse the amateur photography :neener:

Almost forgot, no those aren't the grips that came with it. I have the factory rubber ones. I just liked how the wood Springer grips looked :)

You bought a fine brand and a good gun, but you shood do your research before you buy not after!:what:

I've had one since 1992 and while it is not fancy, doesn't have a fancy name, doesn't have the accuracy of a $2000 + 1911, it does work well. It is a continuation of the original 1911 made by Colt for the military. I changed the factory grips to Colt wood grips when I bought it, they were horrible.

Unfortunately I didn't really have time to do much research on it, as it was at a Gun show and I was there for that day only. I knew it was a decent weapon, as it's a Colt 1911 but I figured the more I knew the better

I bought it for $500. It's in like new condition, with the only real wear being on the barrel by the ejection port.

Hey that is a nice gun.I have one that is still new only shot 10 times or less.I like the 1911 style. However I just bought my first Glock.....a 27.Green bottom in color..it was new complete with 2 mags cleaning etc..475.00 including tax.I guess ok deal? Anyone know of a good mag extension for this Glock 27...also a good brand and best grain bulllet?

I'm new to the 1911 game, but I'll give it a shot. You've shown three guns, two of which are, I believe, early model 1991As, judging from the big roll mark, "COLT M1911A1." The newer ones say "colt's government model." The stainless one in your first post ("MODEL 1911-A1") has features that make it look like an older, series 70 gun: small sights, short trigger, and rounded backstrap, but I'm not familiar with the roll mark. Is it a colt?

The other two are obviously 1991s, which were colt's "economy" line. They were meant to be basic, no-frills, high-quality guns. They should both have straight, nylon back straps, solid barrel bushings, and firing-pin-block safeties.

The stainless one is a Springer Mil Spec. The not stainless one is a Colt M1991A1.

While shooting the other day I noticed it was shooting high. Should I be sighting straight across like \ | / or should I be pulling the front sight down tight like \ . / ?

Straight across, and it's normal for it to shoot a little high. The sights are designed for a six-oclock hold.

The main thing is - is it relaible? Will it feed h/p or just ball ammo? It will be pleantly accurate if everyting was fitted properly.

It fed the cheap WWB I bought yesterday just fine, no drama at all. Haven't tried HP yet.

As far as I could tell, it was only shooting high. Good to know it was designed for 6 o'clock, didn't even think of trying that. I always forget it when shooting my XD :p
