So I got this awhile back. It's turned out to be a lot of fun to shoot and more accurate than I expected with the short barrel. Gonna keep it. Problem is, the other side of the barrel is rusted somewhat. Not pitted, but the finish is worn through from whoever tried to clean the rust off.

As some folks here will remember, I had a rusty MKIII frame Cerakoted purple for mama, then added a TacSol upper and VQ internals. Was also the first gun my son ever shot, and was enough to convince him he needed his own...which turned out to be an aqua/Tiffany blue MKIV with VQ internals and Swampfox optic.

So my MKII is going to get similar treatment. I'm not buying an upper for it, so the factory upper and frame will both get a Cerakote finish. Question is, what color?

Thought about a target gray similar to the M77 MKII varmint rifles?

Or olive drab?

Or frame and upper in contrasting colors. Red frame, black or dark gray upper?

Just want something that doesn't resemble anything the factory offered (but not as flashy as purple or aqua blue)
Open to suggestions

In Cerakote colors I would go with a Navy Blue or Blackout upper and Crushed Silver for the grip frame.

I'd do an olive drab. Just always like things that were that color, and if I was figuring out what to do, I'd either just put Oxpho Blue on the worn area and call it a day, but - finishing the thing over again, olive drab for sure if it was me.

Definitely considered the OD green with the zebra wood grips. But also thought they'd play well with the gray Ruger used on these th (2).jpeg

But I'm leaving the gold trigger in, which would probably look better with the OD.

I rescued a flood-scarred Standard model a few years ago. The exterior was a pitted and rusty mess, the bore was fine and the internals weren’t bad.

I bead blasted the rust and pitting as much as possible, I didn’t want to erase the serial numbers or lettering completely. I had it coated in dark gray cerakote.

When I called to inquire about new internal springs the Ruger rep sent me a whole set, and a factory mag, for free.

With black factory grips I got off eBay, I think it looks pretty good and it shoots very well.

Stay safe.

It's almost autumn, I might be tempted to go natural with some interesting leaf colors.

Keep the family color thing going, but a little more subdued.

I voted grey. But I would do a darker grey on the barrel and then a medium grey on the frame. Get some grey and black G10 grips for a tri-tone look!

OD would look good with those grips.

Get some naval jelly at the local hardware or home improvement store to remove the rust without further damaging it structurally.

I have a Ruger SP-101 with some frame rust that I need to work on just in that manner, but never think to get the naval jelly. I've used the naval jelly before, it took surface rust right off of a cast iron jointer table.

Be bold! Be daring! Fushia glitter finish!

I voted grey because I think it will look pretty good with your grips, unless you plan on changing them out.

Ugh, glitter.

3-4 years ago I was taking my 8 year old daughter and 2 of her friends to practice on a swim team.

I'm pretty sure that little girls of that age produce glitter right out of the pores in their skin.

I'm still finding glitter in my car!
