I just returned from the Tulsa Gun Show and tried to judge the mood of the crowd. As usual there was a large crowd. The mood was bitter, angry, and depressed. I have never seen it like this. After a brief complaint about the election outcome, the conversation went to other matters. I talked with lots of dealers and asked each one how the show was going. Sellers of collectibles would all say something like, "It's OK, not great, but pretty good." Sellers of ammo and new guns, especially handguns and black guns (which usually means AR type), said they could not keep up with demand. Some wished they had hired more help to do the background checks. And they reported having to turn away more buyers from out of state who apparently didn't know they could not buy a registered handgun. The dealers concluded that these were mostly first time buyers who didn't know the law.
What did you experience?

I went to a local gun show this past weekend, partially to gauge the overall mood of the attendees.
I overheard more political conversations than usual, but I didn't detect quite the same sentiments that Sniper66 did.
The balance of inventory seemed far more tilted toward military-style rifles. Fewer handguns were evident, and fewer traditional looking rifles and shotguns. This is NYS, so those items had to be either "preban" or configured to comply with NYS never-expiring AWB.
Plenty of ammo, although the ammo dealers seemed to tilt their displayed inventory more toward .223, .308, ComBloc calibers and common defensive roudns.
Prices weren't outrageous - I grabbed a box of Remington UMC .45 for $20, and some Fiocchi 9mm 147gr JHP for $10, and 100 rounds of Fiocchi .223 55 gr for $40.
Now, I found that the gun community on the Internet was sent reeling after the election results. Lots of "downer" talk, very little discussion about "OK, what do we do next?" In my area, NYS, we're in for some hurt - the political balance shifted even more to Democrats, so now crud like Microstamping and requiring permits for longarms are far more likely.

Conservatives, especially on Talk Radio and TV, foolishly imho portrayed this election as the last chance to save the country. Now according to their predicitions the Obama Administration is going to have total control to destroy all of our freedoms.

My gun saleman, er salesperson, daughter says guns and ammo are flying off the shelves with a lot of customers reacting in fear to the election results, possible gun bans, U.N. disarming America...
