What did you shoot today?

20220108_152726.jpg Function testing my new to me .22LR rifles. A Marlin 60, Marlin Glenfield 25, Remington 190, Savage Springfield 187M.

The Savage had issues with feeding and extracting so I put it away quickly. Favorite out of the bunch was the Glendfield 25, has an old Simmons 3-9x scope on it. Spent some time sighting it in with mini mags. Trigger was very sensitive to what I've been used.

I think they all need a really good cleaning. I didn't clean them before i shot them and they were used.

PzGren: MP5? It's obviously an HK or derivative.

I know a guy from the UK who has the tax stamps for his Chinese AKM and MP5.

It is a Turkish MKE AP5 imported by CAI. MKE is a licensed manufacturer and uses HK machinery. I find the quality of my sample to be excellent and in line with HK. FWIW, in basic training I had a couple old CETME G3s that were every bit as good as the standard HK G3, only the sniper rifles were carefully chosen from among the most accurate G3.

Shooting the AP5 as a pistol with the sling only is still slow and awkward and will need some practice at home to get reasonably fast.

Frustrated with the world, I took this out. 60D8B8F2-E636-4FF3-8429-F1DD17AD7FF7.jpeg
It was 19° Out and the rifle balked at the end. Too cold, too dirty. All I could muster was a 50 foot walk to a sand pile. I have around six hundred rounds through it now. Time for a suppressor cleaning and a hose out. The CMMG barrel is very accurate and being nitrided cleans up easy. A pencil weight profile and the lightweight handguard make this the nicest of my ARs to tote around, though I admit I haven’t done any hiking with it yet.
The trigger is wonderful. On single it’s a very nice, very little creep trigger. On binary it’s a blast!
The 150 rounds of CCI standard I had frozen to death in my truck went quickly, but that’s for the better. Just getting over China flu and a double ear infection, complicated by bronchitis. I couldn’t afford a day off and none were given, the joys of working a small shop.

I couldn’t talk up these two natives to go with me.

I still can’t hear from the port side so I think I’ll just call it a day and tidy up the loading room.:)

Black Mamba blue background 1.jpg
Nice day at the range for one of our Steel Challenge Matche. I shot my Volquartsen Black Mamba today and did pretty well. For Arizona it was COLD. Temps were only in the 40s when we started and never got over the high 50s while we were still on the range.

I came prepared with long johns, heavy coat and lots of hand warmers for me and anyone else that needed one. Over the years a number of us have figured out that when it's too cold our guns just don't seem to want to run at 100% unless we give them a little treatment by putting a hand warmer in our ammunition bag and sometimes around the gun itself before it's our turn to shoot.

I had to work around a small cut that I did to my left hand last week while making a new shooting bag. Seven stitches but no real damage so with bandages and gloves covering the cut I was able shoot my average, and a little better.

6 Dasher, checked zero and got velocities.

I had some time to kill between medical appointments, so I grabbed a few guns and went to the range that’s between the hospital and home.

The Model 14-3 never disappoints, 18 DEWC at 15 yds stayed in the black so I was happy with myself.

Now, with the fixed-sight 3” Model 13-3 I wasn’t putting shots as accurately on the targets as I was with the 6” revolver with target sights, but at self defense distances of 7-10 yds the B-27 targets were sufficiently peppered in the 9-10 rings to put a hurt on a crook. The rubber Hogue Bantam concealment grips made for easy follow up shots with standard pressure .38’s.

But the best part of a Model 13 is it allows for the limited amount of .357 loads I also brought along to be fired. The short barrel and older Speer magnum loads created a bit of chatter amongst the newer shooters in lanes to my right and left.

(The most bizarre fireball ever, no camera editing trucks were used. For whatever unexplained reason it’s almost completely flat on the down-range side. o_O)

Stay safe.

I understand. I retired at 52, more than 10 years ago. But none of the folks I saw at the range yesterday were in their 50's, mostly 20's and 30's. I know it's a much more flexible work environment these days, though. I'd assume they were working at something if they're out there shooting.

The NMPC (Navy personnel) center in nearby Millington TN has ,—- for the second time—-, mostly shutdown due to Wuhan/ Covid.

It can look like retirement.

My PRS buddy Jeff needed to check zero and get velocities today, since he couldn’t go yesterday. I brought my rifle and shot three rounds.

My group from yesterday is top left, my three shots today are top right. (Shot #2 is high/right, that was me). Jeff shot the lower targets. I shoot better groups, he generally beats me at PRS matches.

Today it hit 60 degrees and it was time to go on Armadillo patrol. Strapped on my Ruger 22/45 and stuck my CZ 455 in my ATV boot and went for a ride. This farm is about 800 acres and has a mile and a half of creek bottom pasture. Due to a flood back in April the armadillo population is down and I only shot 2 today. One with each gun. They love a nice day like this during the winter. I'll break out the electronic call and the 243 tomorrow and see if the coyotes are feeling frisky.

My range buddy's:
 Ruger .22 LR target pistol. Not familiar with this model. Pretty nice trigger.
 His Saiga (7.62x39), which the seller very skillfully 'converted'. Too bad that many guys who do conversions don't add wooden furniture.

Mine:
:) CZ "PCR"/ 75 D (9x19 mm), excellent ergos.
:) MAK-90 (7.62x39 :scrutiny: ).

Sounds like a great way to spend a couple of days
