What did you shoot today?

20220313_131559.jpg 20220313_150112.jpg Long day at the outdoor range. A handful of coworkers came out some it was there first time shooting a gun and they got to shoot a huge variety. I myself brought a Henry. 22 Magnum Golden Boy, M44 and a 91/30 Mosin, Type 99 Arisaka, Canik Tp9sfx Whiteout, Hungarian PA63, Browning BDA, Glock 22,Taurus Tx22 Competiton. Other coworkers brought a CZ Shadow 2, Sig 1911 and 365x, Taurus Track .357, Sar9, German 1911 .45. Remington in 7mm Magnum

Some of their gfs shot some guns as well. Turned them all onto guns. Most were interested in the newer guns and not my WW2. First time shooting my Arisaka, it shot well and didn't blow up which was the goal

5`7 Apex Hammer swirl topaz.jpg Shot Steel Challenge with my 617. So much more fun than with the auto. Fortunately I have a number of DS-10 Speed Loaders and loading block so I didn't hold anyone back.

I shot pretty good shooting the gun with iron sighs today. I am going to put my C-More back on for next week's match. I couldn't do it for this weak because I was waiting on a new mount and it didn't come in in time.

I actually came in second so it was a good day. It got hot today. Hit 80 degrees and it burned me out. Good thing we only shot 5 stages. I don't think I would have lasted another stage.

Shot some ladder loads in 357 and 9mm. Best string of the day was 9 mm 125 grain Sierra V-Max and 6.0 gr of True Blue with an average velocity of 1406 fps and SD of 4 ft/s.
Also took the 1895 Nagant pistol to test if my recent cylinder scrubbing helped with difficult extraction. Some improvement, but I’ll have to try polishing to get it right. I was shooting the really poor PPU ammo that chrono’ed anywhere from high 400’s to low 600’s. Very poor consistency. I’m saving my Russian surplus!
Curiously enough, the second best string was my grandsons AK shooting a 20 rd string of Tulammo steel and measured 14 f/s standard deviation. Pretty good for cheap steel case ammo.

I returned to the range after a 4 month layoff due to significant health issues. I just wanted to knock the rust off , did not have very high expectations.
I chose to shoot my good old Beretta 92 ; it usually treats me pretty well. Arms were kinda shaky , range was 30 ft. Shot 2 15 round mags. Earlier shots were left , with a few semi-fliers. Before shooting the second mag I asked myself "What would Burt tell me right now?" Burt was the head instructor at our club , wonderful man , no longer with us. Huge loss to our outfit. The message I got from Burt was that I was jerking the trigger just a bit ... I should apply gentle pressure and be almost surprised when discharge occurred.

It worked. I started hitting the center of the paper plate , put a few through the same hole towards the end.

Great to be back. Thanks Burt!

Those grips are something else, nice!

Picked it up nib about four days ago.

Iron Sights:
Hit a man-sized metal target at 300 yards. It might have moved from a pair of .308 hits, then the third made an audible "Ting".
An empty round propane tank was hit four times at 200 yards, although no "Tings" were heard -- only because the propane steel is fairly thin, combined with loud case ejection noises, bounces ?

PTR-91 classic "GI", in .308. These have the flash hider, metal trigger housing and paddle mag. release. The only change will be getting a 'neutral' pistol grip (am left-handed), from RTGparts. Their pistol grip has no ridge.

I shot the 1952 K-22 in a direct comparison to my old Korth 24 series. I did substantially better with the K-22, normally the Korth does better for me. I will repeat the direct comparison and use different ammo than Winchester Wildcats. The K-22 is the best S&W .22 l.r. I ever shot but I am still surprised at today's results.

(yesterday) My Henry .410 lever and my Springfield 1911. I wanted to try some 000 buckshot to see how the Henry patterned with that load. Being almost a total shotgun noob, I was pleasantly surprised to note that the buckshot made about the same sized holes in the target as the .45 ACP pistol bullets.

Tuesday: New AR in 6mm ARC I assembled from a PSA lower and a 6.5 Grendel upper on which I replaced the barrel with a 24-inch 6mm ARC. It shot beautifully. The Hornady black ammo averaged 2,680 fps. The new 6.5 Grendel didn't fare so well. 20-inch PSA upper on top of a Colt lower. Quite a few failures to eject resulting in jams, a couple of which mangled the case mouths. Working to diagnose the problem. I should have swapped the lowers and tried again. Hope to do that on Saturday.

Yesterday: Took a friend from church to the range to do some familiarization with handguns. We shot a Browning Buckmark, 4-inch Ruger GP100, 2.25-inch SP101, Glock 48, Kahr P9, and a Ruger LCP, in that order. For the revolvers I had plinkers loaded with Trailboss, .38 Special loads with Unique, and full bore .357 magnum loads with 2400. Spent lots of time on fundamentals of grip, sighting, trigger control, etc. Our target was at 8 yards, and by the time we were done, he was grouping pretty well with the Kahr. He liked the Kahr and the SP101 (with the plinkers and .38 specials). He did NOT like the LCP and fully understood why that tiny concealable pistol is not a good choice for a new shooter. Next outing with him will include his wife.

First time (ever) trying Any gun Out to 400 yards- hit a gong with iron sights! Twice. Friend was the spotter.

—The rifle is depicted in post # 1037: the same PTR-91 "GI", using the “4” aperture.
This friend, who grew up in Germany, then offered to buy the rifle....my newest, still almost new-in-box.

After shooting a PTR in .308, my 7.62x39 Maadi (Intrac) and Czechpoint VZ-58 feel somewhat like shooting an M-1 Carbine :scrutiny: . Never mind the far superior, HK-styled iron sights !:D

The same German friend had his new M1A-1 at the club, and my shots with it today were more of a roundish group than the weird vertical string using it (the first time) a week ago.

Still tinkering with the 336 in 30-30. Tested some more cast loads and found what seems to be a good one. I also put a few rounds through my Shield (old 8-shot version) and my M&P9. The Shield is finally starting to grow in me after 3 years.

I had not shot my Hammerli 212/ Jägerschaftspistole for at least one month and it felt like an eternity. After a few shots I settled in and got great results. I had found a tiny crack in the slide of an old Walther P1 and fitted another slide to it, I test fired that P1 and another and drifted the sights of one of them over to be spot on.
