I have always wondered what is the issue gun for some of the following?

FBI
CIA
NSA
DEA
INS
Nave Seals

You get the idea. I'm just curious. I asked a guy this at the gun show and he said he wasn't sure but he figured they all carried sigs...............

I also heard that every CIA agent gets issued a sig, a benchmade knife, and a surefire.

I find rumors but nothing more.

Great link; Funny they seem to have a hange-up about full auto weapons I did not know about. I figured everything they have that remotely resembles an autoloading rifle would go rock and roll. Heck, out here the SO has ex-military full-auto M-16A1's, one issued per officer.

CIA

Despite what everyone thinks, the CIA doesn't carry weapons. At best, they know how to field strip it, load it and basic shooting. The only CIA officers who are trained well are the military special ops, not the basic Clandestine groups.

neither does the NSA, NRO, DIA, NIMA or any of the other spooky agencies. their primary mission is to gather intelligence, not shoot at people. the idea is to look like everyone else, not stand out.

Nice link! Saw plenty of Sigs as expected, plus a lot of S&W autos.

The measurements screwed me up for a while there. 9X33mm? Must be a Fed thing. Oh, you mean .357 magnum!

My best freind from High chool is a secret sevice police officer and he said there was a big deal made when the switched to 357sig a few years ago....I'm not really sure how much they actually practice ...it's a hard round(357sig) to master is you don't practice IMO........makes you think:cool:

With very few exceptions, they have a competition to see which weapons will meet a certain minimum set of reliability, durability and accuracy standards, then buy the cheapest ones that meet those criteria.

Do we really need so many separate agencies ?

Seems like some rationalization of departments is needed to me, I would think that replacing 20 bureaucratic infrastructures with 4 or 5 would significantly improve communication, save money, and do away with a lot of the petty budget based in fighting we see each year.

A structure like this one could only survive in the inefficient wasteland that is the Federal Government.

They buy the best pistols our tax dollars can find. Then they reissue every three years or so. To get the best bang for our tax dollar they destroy them instead of selling them after they are finished with them.

Secret Service

A Secret Service agent I know was issued a 2.5" Model 19 when he joined in 89. When the service transitioned to the Sig Sauer the Smiths were all sold to a civilian dealer(s). The agent several of the old timers were peeved about this because many of them had been carrying their Moel 19's since they were brand new and wanted to buy them. Mind you this is from one agent, but I believe him.

I believe that info was written by a European (Hans-Christian Vortisch sounds German) and he used the metric identification of the cartridges, so .357 Magnum becomes 9x33R.

Actually, most Europeans call U.S. and British cartridges by their original names; I suspect that if you mentioned 9x33R to, say, a Swede, he would probably think a bit and then say, "Oh, you mean .357 Magnum."

The list is incorrect in at least one or two areas.
National Park Service Rangers can carry any full size Sig they want, the one I attended a course with carried a Sig P220.
Also some Federal Air Marshals are being issued the SigPro 2340 in .357sig.

DOE

It should also be noted that, that site implied all nuclear facilities are garded by DOE guys and that is not true. All privatly owned neclear facilites are guarded by private security. The security at nuclear plants has very high training and qualification standards, and generally issues Glock pistols in either .40 or 9mm, and most carry AR-15's, although some prefer 870's. As far as why semi is prefered over full auto, it is simple. Just as my drill instructor taugh me im USMC boot camp, one shot one kill. Hit what you aim at with every round, don't spray and pray. In my 4 years in the marines, I don't think my M-16 went on burst even once. No need to do it.

Semper Fi, bro

S.O.P. in my outfit, in I Corps in RVN 1969/70 was that ONLY the point man kept his '16 on full auto. Even if you're carrying a double basic load, ammo goes fast. Also remember that the 5.56/M16 had (has?) a poor reputation of stopping power, and jamming, you must trade off the prob of a kill vs having enough ammo to last through the fight. AND KEEP IT CLEAN!!!! DAMMIT

END

Actually it has an excellent record for stopping power. And the jamming (actually malfunctions) are a function of poor maintence and wrong powder selection in the early days.

The CIA does have armed Officers, they cary SIG's, they fall into 2 areas, the patrol force that works home sites, i.e. "The Farm" and they have Agents assigned to protect the spokies in the Embasies

I beleive the INS issues a beretta .40 cal Brigadeer in DAO configuration. The others I dunno.
That is correct, although interestingly enough, there are only enough Beretta’s to make through the first part of next year. That is why the National Firearms Unit recently selected a new firearm. They haven’t announced what it is yet but I’d be bet money its going to be the HK USP.
