What do my fellow gun enthusiasts do for a living?

I am partially disabled. I have broken my spine in five places and have seven herniated discs among other old injuries that have caught up with me. My neurologist doesn't understand why I'm not in a wheelchair, and has me on strict orders that I am not to lift anything heavier than a half a gallon of milk. (What universe do these doctors live in anyway?) I should be on disability, but the Social Security folks claim that with my level of education I should be able to do something, and the doctors they sent me to seem to feel that the money would come out of their own pockets and won't certify me as 100% disabled, so I have to fend for myself.

I am a writer (science fiction and sword and sorcery fantasy). I hope that the two novels I have sent to the publisher will be on the stands within the next six months or so. Then, if I can get someone in Hollywierd interested in it I''ll move to Arizona and retire for real, and just ride horses and spend my free time at the range.

I also help my wife build and maintain her acupuncture practice, and I stay home and take care of our son.

I also have a friend who is a lobbyist and political campaign manager (Republican) and I help him whenever he needs it and he throws a few coins my way for that help.

Besides that, I make jewelry as a hobby, and since my wife can only wear so many pieces, I sell some of that on consignment.

Until recently I was also a massage therapist specializing in therapeutic medical massage. My back has just gotten too bad to keep that up.

I've been a soldier (Ranger), a bonded courier, and a mechanic. Now I mostly keep tabs on my boy (an eleven year old redhead), and do what I feel like doing, although I do have to take occasional custom jewelry orders.

Keep your fingers crossed for me, I am filling out an application for employment at my local gun shop. I decided supply-side economics would be appropriate. Since they enable my habit they may as well supply some of the money for it as well.

I retired two weeks ago. I used to make Kevlar.

Now I want to get a job as a Wal-Mart greeter, or be that annoying old man in sporting goods who doesn't know a shotgun from a tennis racket.

Can I help you sir? 9mm WWB? That would be in the fishing section.

Stone project manager for daytime, and custom furniture builder for fun in the evenings.

Retired from the Navy, spent a lot of time as a P3 flight engineer.

Found out flight engineer is the same as mostly unemployed in the civilian sector.

Went to school on the GI Bill and other money to become a nurse.

Have been working vaarious ER's for about 9 years now.

Now in the most rewarding place I have ever worked. I am a ER nurse in the VA taking care of some very sick elderly vets, who all have a story to tell.
