What do you keep for bumps in the night

I live in an older suburb--frame houses, thin walls, close neighbors.

Got a nosy 50# lab mix that roams the house during the night, a Makarov with Hornaday HPs and spare mag for me, and a S&W .38 with +p HPs for my wife.

As soon as I get the kinks worked out, I'll probably replace the Mak with my 1911 and the wheelgun with my CZ-82. I'll trade extra rounds for stopping power with the 1911, and stopping power for lots more rounds with the CZ.

Ok, seriously... Someone tell me this isn't terrifying! :)

Lets see,

under the pillow my side, Colts Combat Commander, in a thumb snap galco, with 3 extra mags on the night stand with a Streamlight TL, Under her side, is a Colt's LtWt Commander, (her EDC) with 3 mags and a LED 3 cell maglight on her dresser, both of us have a 12 ga 870 cruiser ready leaning in our corners (she also has an old rem tube feed .22 bolt for rabbits in her garden), in the closet is a grab bag and over the closet door is a pair of M4geries.

Let me repeat this is not a house you want to mess with.

Please don't take what I am going to say with offense, but I agree-- it isn't a house one would want to mess with. It's one that one would like to rob.

I am not trying to change gears on this thread-- gun safes are the topic of this one, but my home was burgularized in December while I was at work. Anyone want to guess what the only things that were taken were? That's right-- every gun that I didn't have in a safe or with me.

Just saying... its something to think about.

I have a Sig 220 full of WW 200g Silver tips.

My house is small, so a shotgun would be unwieldy.

Until this last Tuesday, we had a 65# Doberman-Shepard. His cancer had spread, so we had to do the unthinkable.

I'm in such a foul state of mind over my lost buddy, I probably wouldn't need a gun to wreak havoc with a goblin.

Haha... so the question is (in the case of Bonnie and Clyde...hehe) when is enough enough? I mean you can only shoot one at a time :D

hehe... yep

For me, however, its been that pesky reality that I have to leave the house sometime-- then its their world.

In the case of my robbery, they had me cased GOOD. They knew my schedule, the locations of the firearms, and they stuck to a plan. They left a $350 digital camera laying on the kitchen table, and left a Flat screen TV on the wall. They only went for the guns.

an Asp nightstick. I live on a Military base and if I answer bumps in the night with gunfire, I am in deep doo doo.

When I lived in town, kept the .410 loaded and ready.

1st line of defense: BG will be tripped by the cat trying to escape the apartment and break his neck.

Backup Plan: The BG will open the closet door in the living room. He will then be temporarily incapacitated my boxes of ammo and camping gear falling from the shelf. As he stumbles backward, he will slip and fall on the hundreds of rounds of .40S&W & 12G rolling around on the tile floor, impaling himself on a tent stake as a folding shovel splits his head in two.

If all of that fails, the Beretta Px4 Storm with LaserMax sight (I'm getting old...I can't see the front sights without my glasses) and .40 Hydra-Shok JHPs be be ready.

Should it be a clear cut Zombie moment, I will fall back to a 12G Mossberg with 3 1/2s that pack eighteen 00s each. I would have to trust adrenalin at that point to pull me through the shoulder pain.

I have a dog and a Ruger GP100 and a couple speedloaders. I chose the revolver because it's powerful, reliable, and simple. But the dog is my first, and preferably last, line of defense.

If things get really hairy, I can grab my AR15 out of the safe.

For my bump in the night moments I have my dog, a Husky/Rotty mix, and if anyone gets past her and manages to make it up the staircase, I have a Winchester 1300 .12 gauge and a Glock 17 ready and waiting.

I believe

in always being ready.... so.
870 next to the bed
HK p7 on me
SW 686 on the dresser
Chromed AK 47 in the shower
Keltec P3at taped under the toilet
MP 5 on the desk
Machete under the desk.
Satchel Charge taped to the front door
Claymores on the front lawn
twin 50s on the roof
Flame thrower in the living room...

Some opf these are true...

I've got a Beretta 90-two loaded with HPs and a club that doubles as a maglite. Wifey has the GP100 loaded with Hps if it's bad. Too many corners in my house for shotguns...

Happened last night. A pack of raccoons doing a rumba on the roof.
Used Sig 229 and Beretta CX 4 with 20 rd of 9mm and attached flashlight with vertical grip activation.

CZ75B in .40S&W loaded up with Hornady TAP. Couple that with a Surefire 6p and a home alarm system, 2 backup phones. We'll be ok.

1300 defender kept handy at all times with a bit of bird, buck and a couple three inch magnum slugs too round it out.

my dad has a GLOCK 22 in his room full of 165 grain JHP

also keep my mini-14 in the hall closet or next to the putor desk as a "community" weapon

On my side of the bed a Mossy 500, first round #4 birdshot and then 6 rounds of 00 buck and a GLOCK 26. No fancy doodads on either since my plan is to barricade and there's no way to miss a person filled doorway at less then 10 feet. On my wifes side a Kel-Tec P3AT backup gun for my back up gal.

Nod

SP101 by bedside with the FBI load in it, Glock 19 on a bookshelf across the room if needed with 15 rds of Golden Sabre 124gr +P. If neither of those work, my AK with a 30 rd mag behind the bedroom door, one "rack of the slide" away from good use

Also, both the Glock and the SP101 have night sights on them.

SBR M4 with an Ops Inc MBS 15th Model suppressor topped with an EO Tech 552 and AN/PEQ-2 IR laser. It has 90 rounds at the ready and a set of PVS-7D's so I can use the IR laser. I can see everything like it was daylight and nobody will know I'm there.

I own a house in the city.My home defense pistol is my HK USP 45 fullsize.back-up provided by Glock model 17 with numerous 33rd. magazines. Both equipped with Meprolight night sights.I have back-up to the back-ups as well.:D
