What kind of accuracy do you and your .308 achieve?

I expect 1 MOA. If the rifle does not achieve that with factory ammuntion, I am dissappointed and would likely sell the rifle off eventually.

I have NO idea what my LR-308 is going to do now. I've been tearing it down and re-doing things.

However, when it had a 24" Stainless Barrel, I managed a 3/8" 100 yard, 5 shot group when the rifle was bone-stock. I call it luck.

It will be 3 weeks before I can shoot my newer set-up. She's headed off to Art at Superior Weapon Systems for a new forearm this week.

Minute of deer from point blank to 250 yards, with a totally stock 35 year old Remington 760 Pump in .308.......eyes are getting too old for anything farther out than that without a scope....... :)

This particular Crazy Horse MK14 SEI Mod 0 has fired sub MOA groups with surplus Portuguese NATO.
The barrel is an 18.0" medium heavy chambered for M118LR. It has 4 grooves and a 1:10 ROT.
All USGI TRW parts on a forged Norinco receiver. I used an EOTech when the groups were measured.

I am a huge Savage fan (7 if them). I currently have two chambered in.308. One is the 10FCP and I get 1/2 to 3/4 groups consistanly. I also have the 10 F/TR and I am consistanly getting 1/4 to 1/2 out of it. That is with little to no wind though. Oh that is with Lapua brass, 43 grains of varget, 168 smk and federal match primers.

I bought this Magnum Research Lone Eagle for $225. I stopped load development with the second load I tried, 42.5 grains of VV N133 with a 130 SP Hornady. It shoots like this with either a 2X or the 4X scope that it on it now.

The last 3 shot group is sub .250" at 100 yards.

Remington Core-Lokts is a brand of ammo, they run about $17/box. For factory hunting ammo, they give pretty good performance. I'm shooting factory fodder to build up a brass supply, so I can load some 168 grain Sierra Matchkings.:) Then I will expect sub-moa performance.

If I was to purchase a Springfield M1A, it would me the M21 Tactical; I believe the Springfields are out of my price range though. My ceiling is about $1500.

Keep an eye on the for sale section at m14 firing line. Lot of rifles sell there, and $1500 well buy a nice one. Buy a standard and slowly do your upgrades.

My only .308 is an M1A Loaded. I have an ARMS 18 on the way so it will probably have a 4.5-14x40AO Nikon Buckmaster on it before too long. In the meantime, it continues to shoot around 1.5-2 MOA with iron sights and cheap 147 gr FMJs, and just over 1 MOA with Hornady 168 gr Match. I have no doubt it is capable of better, but I wonder how much more accurate I am capable of being with iron sights.

Still, I've shot and hit with this setup out to 600 yards.

Overall, I have to say my M1A quickly became my favorite rifle largely because of its accuracy and shooting characteristics. I've shot a decent selection of rifles from several different AR setups to custom bolt rifles and most stuff in between, and no other rifle has been as ergonomic and comfortable, easy to hit with, or pleasant as my M1A. Other semi-autos may be as accurate as an M1A, but none of them combine the ergonomics, reliability, long term durability, or the overall quality of shooting experience. So sure, you can get an AR but then you're stuck with an AR, and I personally have very little use for a rifle that feels and sounds more like a pogo stick than a rifle. The M1A is solid. You owe it to yourself to check them out before making a purchase. I thought they were out of my price range too, but I saved until I could get one and I have never regretted it. If you're on the market for a commercially available .308 semi, the M1A is the cream of the crop, save for the higher end M14 builds from SEI, LRB, and some of the customer builders.

LR308 24"bbl, Fed. Gold Match 168 gr, all at 200 yards, average of all 3 and 5 round groups = .74 MOA. Shot using a bipod on a wooden spool. Wind from steady 10mph to gust of 25mph (east colorado springs gets windy at times)

MTMilitiaman: You must be a Marine (qualifying in bootcamp @ 500yds).

My last time out with my $300 stock 77V I was getting 3 shot groups under 1.5" at 300 yds. I load 168gr. Sierra or Hornady HPBT match bullets and 46.2 gr. BL-C (2) with WLR primers.
I think a trigger and scope change will have it under 1" @300.
Its a work in progress and is free floated so not totally stock and I intend to bed it soon.

I shoot a R700 5R milspec on a AICS and can consistently shoot 6 inch clay pigeons at 800 yards.

I did 2" at 200 yards today

The load:

44.5 grains of H-4895
Remington Case
Remington Primer
150 Grain Remington Core-Lokt bullet

I'm perfectly happy with 2" at 200 yards. I'm getting 2970 fps from my 20" heavy barrel, Remington SPS Tactical.:D Here's a couple pic's.

For reference, I was getting 3100 fps on the chrono, with factory Remington 150 gr Core-Lokts, from a 20" barrel. My load at 44 grains was pushing 2770, so I picked up quite a bit of velocity with a .5 gr increase.

I have a rem 700 pss with some work done to it, and with match ammo, I can shoot under 1/2 groups if I do my part rested from a bench.

Now my buddy has a GA precission built on a remington 700 action and an accuracy Int'l stock and with match ammo, I've shot a 1.5 inch 12 shoot group at 300 yards. It also has an 18x US Optics scope on it.

Sweetest gun I've ever shot.

Get your Chrony out of the direct sunlight. No way you are getting 3100fps with a 150gr bullet out of a .308.

I was using the diffusers, should not have affected it very much. The second shot was 3047 fps, with the factory fodder. I chrono my pistol loads all the time, in the sunlight, that's what the diffusers are for.

The diffusers alone are as worthless as teets on a boar hog. Tape some translucent material (large paper targets work well) completely over the tops between the two diffusers, so as to provide shade to the two sensors. If it's a late morning sun, you may need to have some hang over the side as well. Direct sunlight on the sensors results in velocity readings of hundreds of fps higher than reality. Knowing what is actually possible with a given load is a big help in determining the validity of your chrony results.

T3 tactical

I had a week ago 7mm in a distance of 100 meters, that is slightly below 1/4 MOA. Rifle is T3 tactical 308. Lapua Scenar 10 grams. Best result with same equipment in 300m (328yds) has been 0,36 MOA. Unfortunately that was only once. :)

Tikka T3 tactical

Adding a bit to my earlier msg

Im doing my own loads. Loads are found thru testing and testing more.
I have IOR 10x42 MP8 scope.
Trigger mech is SAKO's very sensitive one.
Chamber was shortened, so that 73mm (2mm longer than factory loads) long load, with LAPUA scenar 10g, is slightly touching the rifling.
LOAD: Length 73mm
Shell: SAKO 308
Bullet LAPUA scenar 10g
Powder: Vihtavuori N150, 2,85grams
Primer: Magnum

Out of the rifles in your list I can only speak to the PTR91.

It's a 3 MOA or so rifle and that's just all it's gonna ever be.
