What do you think is the best bang for your buck 22lr brand?

A cleaner burning, self-lubricating powder would be a plus ... no doubt about it. But if some fouling doesn't cause function issues, then the Remington is hard to beat if you're looking for "the best bang for your buck".

I agree, and use it pretty successfully in a couple of bolt actions.

I try to stick with Federal Bulk Pacs for semi-auto plinking.

based off a small sampling of 2 10/22's, 2 mark 2's, a buckmark, and my buddy's gsg5 my opinion of bulk ammo available at walmarts is this:

federal and winchester 333 or 555 run reliably. golden bullet, winchester wildcat have issues. I have no idea how accurate they are, good enough for cans. last time I chrono'd a 22 from a rifle it was moving around 1050fps. it was probably a federal bulk.

Depends what type of shooting you plan on. If you don't need precision, buy cheap. If you want tight groups, you have to try perhaps a dozen or more ammo options to be confident of a good ammo/rifle fit. My old Anschutz target rifle simply loves a mid-range Federal Gold Medal round (I bought a buttload of one lot of that- should last me years). I recently got a Marlin 795, so far the only good-shooting ammo I find for that is Remington-Ely Target at about $12/50 rounds. Nuts! I was hoping it would really perform with the cheap stuff, so far no luck on the cheap or midrange-price stuff (but I have only tried 7 different ammos so far). I'll keep trying, and you should too. The ringht ammo can turn borderline accuracy into precision.

My vote is easy, SK Std Plus. You have to pay a lot more money to get better performance. Dollar for dollar, these rounds deliver. This is from 50 yards.

I've never had a problem shooting anything through my 10/22. Shoot the cheapest stuff I can find and always hit what I'm aiming at. Plus I don't mind dumping 25 rnds just to see dirt fly.

not always. my lightly modded 10/22 prefers winchester wildcats (about 20 bux for 500rds) over almost all of the top shelf stuff.

however, i have been known to seperate bulk 22 ammo by casehead thickness using my super advanced custom homemade casehead thickness detecting fixture device. im working on a patent for it right now.

step 1 - stick a 223 case in the calipers and press "zero"

step 2 - stick a .22 rnd, bullet first, into the zeroed 223 case.

step 3 - measure casehead thickness and throw all the ones the same into solo cups with casehead thickness
scribbled on it. they will vary from 0.035ish to 0.045ish, with most being 0.040ish.

(dont tell anyone about our little secret!!!!!) :D

Further proof that there are few things one can assume about how a .22LR rifle will shoot. You just never know how one will do with any load, match to bulk, until you actually shoot it. Gotta try a little bit of everything. :)

For bulk ammo, I shoot Blazer 40gr LRN. It's CCI ammo. I won't put copper washed crap down my barrel.

At 50ft all the holes touch. Good enough for the boys to get Rifle Shooting Merit Badge.

At 50yd, well it's not match ammo, but 1-2 moa is the norm.

This is not top shelf (see Eley Match tgt-it is considered top shelf), it is standard. This stuff works in most everything. Three different pistols getting under 1" at 50 yards...

...and three more rifles, a CZ, an Anschutz, and a Walther; well under 1/2 inch at 50 yards...

I can provide more by just taking more different rifles to the range because this stuff shoots in everything I have ever seen. :D
