I keep hearing everyone talking about this and being scared, etc. but how many of you actually think this could come to be? How many do you think would actually fight against that and how do you see them doing such a ban? Personally, I think Obama has bigger and better things to worry about as of right now than a weapon's ban but assuming that he could try it, what would happen, what would you do, etc.?

No one knows.

No one can know.

We have to work hard to protect and restore our rights regardless of the lack of crystal ball to tell us if we'll succeed or fail because we'll surely fail if we don't.

I think it depends upon the economy, and approval rating. If the economy can't be repaired easily, he has to seem like he's doing something. If the economy's really good, he might decide that it's not too much of a risk to him. If his approval ratings are high, he can do it without too much risk. And if he gets a second term, watch out!

Slim to None?

Perhaps slim to none if nothing bad happens, but you get a bunch of kids shooting at a school, or shot up at school and you would be amazed what type of political suicide it would be to NOT try to pass a ban.

That was certainly the lesson of VA Tech. Suicidal insane shooter goes on rampage. There were immediate calls for gun registration and confiscation. New laws were passed limiting both the number and type of guns for sale. Elimination of carry permits.
Oh, wait.
None of that happened. Actually a majority of people had the idea that if someone responsible had a gun they might have ended the confrontation. A movement arose to allow concealed carry on campus. More people thought about carry and more people applied for permits.
No, an incident like that will not spur bans like in the past. We're over that now.

AWB......No. Overregulating ammo sales, non-toxic bullets, serial #'s on cases, drestruction of non-complying ammo within three years.........A very real possibility.

Just my 9/10ths of a penny.

If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck then you have a duck. Alot of people are in a state of denile that they voted for a gun grabing socialist who's entire picks for his staff are anti gun. Even his VP wrote the original assualt weapons bill.

Obama's cabinet picks have surprised many people. His picks are NOT all left-wing liberals. This shows that there is a practical side to the man. Spending all of his political capital on an attempted gun/ammo ban would not be practical. With the economy falling apart at the beginning of his term, he has bigger fish to fry. And since the Democrats don't have a filbuster-proof majority, any bill to do so is unlikely to ever advance to his desk to sign. The worst to happen MAY be a significant tightening of the rules concerning ammo purchases. Such as banning the importation of ammo. Like as in 7.62x39. He could sell that by promoting American-made ammo in the name of safety...

What about the fact that firearm sales have been way up lately? Would they attempt to hurt one of the industries that's still making money in this economy? Or would high sales be a "good" reason for them to pass a ban(gun or ammo). I ask because I don't know.

I think with in the first 4 years our biggest Threat will be the U.N.. BHO is really into the Image thing with Other Country's. The UN:fire: will spring into action more on there WWWB, (World Wide Weapon Ban)

I think he is desperately hoping that e will stay busy enough that he won't have to say a word about it. The best way to force polarity and lose friends in both houses would be to force pro-gun dems to vote against the party. It wouldn't be easy by any definition. Why waste political capital on something so divisive?

2nd term is completely up in the air.

If he is consistant in his actions with his campaign, then he will not allow a ban. But don't count on it. Three months and we'll have a new AWB and all guns will have to go though a dealer for all legal trasnfers.

Yeah, the trouble is, he supported the Washington DC gun ban until Heller was issued, then he supported Heller, says he won't take our guns, and has been in favor of door-to-door confiscation in Chicago and a renewed AWB.
God only knows what he'll do ...wait, even God may be flummoxed . . . . . . . . .:uhoh::rolleyes:

What do you think the possibility is of a AWB?

This has been promised both verbally and in writting numerous times by the upcoming Obama admin (see the change.gov website) and congressional leadership. Pelosi has stated this many times, it was part of the Dem party platform. I have'nt seen how Reid stands on the issue of late, but I've not looked either.

The big debate is whether the votes are there in congress. I say they are. I say the dem leadership will force their more moderate members into voting for the AWB, but your guess may be different. We'll just have to wait and see.

Here is his stated agenda from his official website (http://change.gov/agenda/urbanpolicy_agenda/):

Address Gun Violence in Cities: Obama and Biden would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent.

I think we should just take him at his word.

Yes, it was part of the platform until the PA and OH primaries. Obama avoided answering any questions on the subject other than to say something like he didn't think something like that would pass. (Note: Pass then, not after Jan 20th.) The AWB and so called gun show loophole are part of his reasonable gun controls. Outlawing semi-auto pistols was one of his personal gun control measures when part of the IL government. Remember he is black and he is from Chicago. The Heller Decision will keep some things in check, but most of the irratating controls most of us dread will be implemented because they are viewed as "reasonable". We dread them because they aren't necessary and have no significant impact on crime. As always, voters heard what they wanted to hear.

From the 2008 Democrat Party Platform

Firearms

We recognize that the right to bear arms is an important part of the American tradition, and we will preserve Americans' Second Amendment right to own and use firearms. We believe that the right to own firearms is subject to reasonable regulation, but we know that what works in Chicago may not work in Cheyenne.

We can work together to enact and enforce commonsense laws and improvements – like closing the gun show loophole, improving our background check system, and reinstating the assault weapons ban, so that guns do not fall into the hands of terrorists or criminals. Acting responsibly and with respect for differing views on this issue, we can both protect the constitutional right to bear arms and keep our communities and our children safe.

I'm more worried about Obama signing some type of executive order banning importation of foreign guns and ammo. Not that there's much at the surplus sites these days anyways. This has been done before by chief executives.

That's why you can get a new Norinco M-14 or 1911A1 in Canada, but there hasn't been one imported here since about 1994. I think Bush did something similar with Norinco. I forget the details.

Let me put it this way. There is 100% certainty that our 2A rights will be eroded during the Messiah's Obomonatiion 8 year rule, in some form. Count on it.

Since they are already trying to rename streets after him, I am also waiting for the proposal of a Constitutional amendment that will let him serve forever. Suros will do his best to turn this place into a socialist paradise.

If there is a school shooting I think it will happen, no question. One big shooting in the news, like the VT incident, and the AWB will be back and permanent. Biden himself said that the proper response to the VT shooting was to reinstate the AWB (even though the shooting was done with two pistols and NO "assault weapons" whatsoever.)

We had better pray and pray hard, because all of the rifles that we love are highly likely to become illegal in the blink of an eye.

As to those who think an AWB would be political suicide - nonsense! If this was true, they WOULDN'T HAVE EXPLICITLY STATED IT ON THEIR OWN CAMPAIGN PLATFORM!

The Democrat politicians KNOW that they have a "mandate" because of their landslide victory. They will do whatever they want. And Obama will let them.
