What do you use to clean your handgun?

Ed's Red, cause I can make it by the gallon for cheap.

I keep a bottle of shooters choice on hand for softening up lead in porting and the like...but always follow up with Ed's Red.

I too use Hoppes 9 and Break-Free CLP. Break-Free seems to stay on longer, and not dry off as easily. I've been using Hoppes 9, but it has an extremely strong odor, which almost smells toxic. and it stinks up my room and stays for least couple hours. I guess some people might equate strong odor with solution strenth. People still buy original pine sol and listerine, though there are more pleasant scented versions.

Does anyone use alternative to Hoppes 9 less the odor?

Ahhh- there's nothing like the aroma of a Hoppe's #9 freshly swabbed barrel. I've moved over to CLP because it cleans and lubes at the same time. But it just doesn't smell the same. Now if some one could come up with CLP that smells like Hoppe's #9 I'd be their biggest customer!

I use Breakfree CLP and, occasionally, Hoppes #9. Also, on my SP-101, I use a Lead Free cloth to clean the cylinder face. After dry firing, I wipe down the gun with a silicone cloth.

Break Free! I would also suggest not using Simple Green on anything aluminum. It will weaken the alloy over time.

I'm with ya greyrock. I realized recently that i had been using so many different new and improved cleaners that i had run out of Hoppes some time in the past. So i went out and got me some. I don't know whether it actually smells good or just brings back memories but i like it. been using that and CLP for about everything.

I'm sold on MPro-7 for cleaning. For lube I just can't seem to settle on a single product. Militec-1 oil and grease, FP-10, and Wilson Ultima-Lube are the ones I've been using. All are good.

Isn't ammonia the best thing for copper fouling? It's in stuff like Sweet's, Butch's, and a host of other copper solvents.

No matter, I still swab the gun down with good 'ol #9 after I use the copper solvent stuff.
