What emergency/SHTF/defense weapons do you guys have?

All my SHTF weapons are "reloadable", as in - I can reload the brass.

.22 are great little guns that have a large potential for survival - but once it's run out of bullets, it's just another pry bar. I've got two, a .22 Mag and a .22 LR - both will be used until the rounds run out.

I've got 40 pounds of various powders, 5,000 bullets for each caliber weapon I own. I can make "live rounds" for years - as long as I don't ruin the brass!

The only thing I don't re-load is the scatter-gun. It's my "home defense" weapon, and I figure 1000 rounds in 00 buck is all I need.

God bless the 870!

I don't intend to run - I'll stand and fight. And when they take my gun "from my cold dead hands" - they best look around 'cause my Lady is probably busting a cap that's gonna "rock their world".

I dont have anything really specifically owned for the purpose of SHTF preparadness. I have enough trouble having enough money for things that I actually need and want to spend that kind of coin on make believe. I do have some nice plinking guns and large quantity of bulk purchased ammunition that could be adequately applied to such a need, should it arise.

Mine are:

- 20" A2 AR15 on a custom made lower with telescoping stock (getting a 16" M4gery upper soon)
- scoped custom 24" SS A4 AR15 for the much needed long range kill
- HK G3
- FN FAL (almost done building from parts kit)
- Feather AT22
- HK USP fullsize .45
- G29 10mm
- 2 1911s (a Norinco, a Springfiled Loaded model)
- Kimber Rimfire Target .22lr (1911 platform)
- Sig P239
- S&W 500 (for when size does matter)

I'm assuming in a SHTF you be after hard targets not softies so guns alone are not going to work. It might've worked 30 years ago. Nowadays you'll need thermal imaging and some form of armored vehicle with a rotating turret MINIMUM.

I for one have a Ruger 10/22 .22LR, Yugo M59/66 7.62x39, MAK-90 7.62x39, Hi-Point 996 Carbine 9x19, Ishapore 2A1 Jungle Carbine 7.62x51, Marlin 1894 .44Mag, Remington 870 12Gauge 3" Mag and a Mossberg 500 12 Gauge 3" Mag, both with 18 1/2" barrels. These are my core weapons, and all my others are pretty much mothballed right now. What do you guys have/plan to use?

You gonna carry all that? :D Be an awful heavy, clattering bunch of hardware on your shoulders if you had to evacuate your area.

Have you considered which you'd take WITH you?

I've been considering one of the Kel-Tec carbines, myself. They fold and can be tucked in a backpack. A long gun that folds down to 16", not bad.

You can't survive by eating bullets.

No, but if I have guns and ammunition, I can get pretty much anything else I might need:evil:

SHTF:

9mm Hi-point carbine
2 SKSs (1 SKS-M that takes AK mags)
Mossberg 500 Special Purpose
(basically my HD setup)

But if S really HTF, then any/all of my guns might be useful.

Laughable...

In a SHTF situation, my loadout will be my .22 pistol and a 91/30 with a bayonet, and I can hand of my savage .17Mach2 to a friend.

I can't afford the weapons that I would deem preferable to the situation. But if it got the Germans out of Stalingrad, it can certainly handle anything suburbia, or downtown madison, might throw at it.

If I bunker down: Bushmaster M4, WASR-10, Springfield M1A, FN Police Shotgun (7+1), Glock 21.

If I cammie up(unlikely at my age): Glock 17 & KelTec Sub2000 (9mm magazines interchange).

That leaves ~78 guns and ~24K ammo in reserve.

HD and SHTF weapons

Benelli M1

Rock River AR 15 w/ Scope

Springfield XD .45 ACP

My wife and I both carry the XD. At one point we had 1911s picked for that purpose, but I couldn't pass on the 13 round magazine, especially if I am having to carry everything. 2 mags +1 = 27 rounds of .45. That suits me just fine.

Everything else I own is just for sport/fun.

Bogie, I once thought as you do until Katrina. I hate to beat a dead horse, but what happens if you stay in your neighborhood and you find that you are being forced to relinquish your weapons to law enforcement? They may not have the legal authority to do so, but nevertheless they did as they were told. We saw what happens if one resists. This is no longer a hypothetical situation. Are you willing to shoot a law enforcement officer for your right to keep and bear arms?

Personally, I am not willing to do that. Therefore, I stay packed and ready to leave for more stable territory should the thin veneer of civilization begin to dissolve around me.

I am not trying to offend, but I gathered from your last post that you have a lot of faith in your neighbors and your ability to stick it out. If I am wrong then I apologize.

My primary SHTF guns are

AR-15 for outdoor engagements.
Remy 870 for indoors use.
Glock 17 for sidearm.

Secondary SHTF guns are

Glock 26 (my ccw piece, if the situation is Nola like, i'll switch to the G 17 carried openly).

S&W model 686 357 mag. This would be loaned to a friend or family member if the situation requires.

AK-47. Similar to the 357 mag, it would be loaned out if required. If i ran out of 223 (not likely given my current stash), i'd dump the AR and switch over to this as my primary rifle.

Mosin Nagant. Another loaner class gun. If it was scoped, it would be a decent sniper rifle, but sadly its not. Have a good chunk of ammo for it, so if both the AK and AR run dry, it could see some use.

Guns that wouldnt be of much use in a SHTF

Ruger 10-22. I dont have much faith in 22LR to stop someone.

Ruger 22-45. Another 22lr, though in extreme situations i'd loan it out to
someone for deterence value.

Savage 22LR. as above, plus its a bolt gun, so low rate of fire. On the plus side, it is scoped.

Savage 17hmr. I dont think the 17-20gr bullet this sucker fires would be of much use against a person. Its a varmint gun, nothing more. On the plus side, its scoped and highly accurate, so maybe useful for harrassment fire.

Don't have either yet but both are on the way.
Ruger GP-100 4". By changing ammo you can do anything from small game to anti personnel to hunting deer sized animals. Maybe even a little bigger if necessary.
The other is a 18" or so barreled FAL. It can be broken down into two parts for easier transport. It can be used for hunting larger game on up to pick-up trucks and ammo is still available around here for them (unlike 7.62x39). I have found the FAL to be just under your average deer rifle in accuracy, which means that it is still way beyond the accuracy capability of most hunters.
It would work for me. An M4 clone would probaby do pretty well too. Could carry more ammo than you could with the FAL for the same weight and the rifle itself is also lighter but you lose some power. May be an OK trade off and it may not.
I would also appreciate a 12 gauge pump, either a Mossberg or Remington. A short 12 gauge pump action can do a lot by changing ammo. But I wouldn't consider one absolutely necessary if you have a rifle and a handgun already.
I can't fault the choices that others have made. Guess we all have different situations to deal with so that means we need different guns for dealing with them.

My Post Katrina kit. (sounds like evryone here has some variation of their own).
But what about a Post Katrina mindset.
Now that it seems official as to what the response to the citizen's "needs" will be by their local or Federal authorities in the midst of disaster whether it be natural, biological, nuclear, bird flu or whatever, it seems prudent to me that an even more guarded view as to what to expect from them. FA's are a basic resource if the SHTF but as others here have mentioned, the real goal is to be self sufficent, with a good degree of mobility. Under extreme circumstances one might want to supply with the thought of avoiding contact with others rather than be seeking other survivers out for a time. As I said, that would require extreme circumstances or events, but other recent events only go to show that things can change in a hurry when the S really does HTF.

hm

i keep hear DOOM music playing and seeing the OP running down the street with a grimace on his face, 11 guns strapped to his back, and a chainsaw in hand...

=P

ideally, no one will even know that there's anybody in my house.

Carbine: Colt 6520 with Aimpoint and Troy back up iron sight. (loaded with 75gr TAP)
Pistol: Springfield XD-9 Tactical w/ 2, 16rd mags. (loaded with HP's)

5.56 and 9mm. Can carry a lot of it, does what I need it to do socially. The idea is lightweight, and lots of ammo in high capacity magazines. Rifle is less than 7lbs for certain, but I'd guestimate it at a little over 6lbs.

For sticking it out in the home...I have a 20" AR with 4x IOR optics (range finding) which gives me accurate rapid fire for "stand off" distance, the guns listed above..and a few other pistols and rifles.
